One negative about car radios is, unless you've got Sirius or whatever, all you can get is a local station. Also, if there was nobody left in an area of the US, how would anybody else know everyone was dead unless they tried to call or visit. Visitors would suffer the same fate as who they're visiting, at least until some point in time. I'll say it won't EXACTLY be a global issue. Could there be side-effects? Not saying. The scope is limited, as you'll all find out in the next two chapters.

Attitude adjustment on order. Unfortunately, they're currently out of stock. Marie-Louise has been placed on a waiting list. Bronchitis may help in the short-term, but once cured or cycled through, one would be susceptible to the actions of the mysterious illness. Humans are a social creature, being among others is very nearly a necessity. Not much forethought about batteries and the like. I will provide a minor spoiler and say there is a Staples and Target nearby, so additional supplies would be easy to obtain.

According to Mr. Google: how long would electricity last without humans Without human intervention, electricity would likely stop flowing within days to months, depending on the power generation source and how well it is managed by the system. Coal and natural gas power plants would likely shut down within days due to fuel depletion, while hydroelectric dams or nuclear plants could potentially continue operating for longer periods. ——————- So I’m going to assume it won’t be a problem based on the current activities in the story.
