After closing the door behind me, I gestured to the front porch swing. I dropped Max’s duffle on the floor, then sat down beside him. Max immediately set the swing into a gentle rocking motion with one leg planted flat on the ground, the other pulled up to his chest, with the tread of his sneaker balanced on the seat. I’d chosen the porch swing deliberately because I knew that sitting still was difficult for Max on a normal basis. Right now, whatever was going on in his head, was leaking out of him in rolling waves of an almost anxious energy. “What’s going on, man?” “You didn’t kiss me hello.” The words were so blunt, I blinked. “Max…” “It’s all right Sam. I’m not stupid. Well, on paper I’m not. But what does an advanced medical degree really tell you about a person anyway?” He laughed softly, then glanced sideways at me. “A.J. said you and Ben might be gettin serious, but I’ll admit I didn’t believe it.”

Ok..... um i have to disagee with you here. I'm all about people being i vetsed in the characters. Any emotional response is good but you really haven't said anything positive so why keep going? Don't torture yourself lol. And HWERE does he kiss Max when he first comes home....showing your hand here [that you read the original]because that's NOT in THIS version , but the original which wasn't posted here. So if you're going off the old version, then yeah that was complicated, but this revision wrote itself in a different way. @Cane23 hit all the points I would have, so thank you sir ❤️. I'm glad you enjoy the quality of the writing but again....you seem to hate everyone and I write complicated multifaceted characters. At least I try and if youre curious about why Sam is how he is, though he wasnt copied from any rwal story as i write the original in 2013, if you listen to Shawn Ryan's podcasts when he had former special forces men on.... the stories will break your heart. They're so damaged and the rate of suicide is through the roof. None of them come back well adjusted. It's not being immature. Humans aren't meant to kill other humans and when these people rack up body counts...they're haunted and damaged. I tried to stay away from the really gratuitous violence, but many of my readers are veterans and I checked in with them and they said it was pretty accurate. I try l to do my research and not every story is everyone's cup of tea, but I'm hearing "I love it but I hate it." Soooo don't keep reading? i dont want to entertain not torture! Life's too short to read things that don't speak to us and these characters will repeatedly repeat through the series. Just fair warning. But I appreciate your feedback.

Thanks @Cane23. I am the same way. Descriptions are important. Theyre just difficult to write, but I think it helps readers decide if things are up their alley. A lot of what's on my TBR pile is good descriptions and or titles that catch my attention.

--chuckles- Thanks. There will be soooo much more snark and smut throughout the novel. Sam and Ben started intensely bur moved to the more tenser romance quickly despite Sams reservations. Max and Roman are the reverse 😆. They start with a BANG and eventually will become more loyal and romantically intense but the snark...that stays. The next chapter will start off steamy and snarky, but then will eventually become more about sharing pizza and conversation. The chapter after that, we will see Roman get to be as much a "knight in shining armor" as Max will let him...which...we'll knowing Max...not much 😆

😆 they totally are. But once they figure it out....you'll see the Teflon tendencies that Roman's mild OCD and Max's sense of dogged loyalty create when they live for one another. Oh... it's coming 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 Tara is a female Max with even less filter so it's a show. Roman can handle it. He is the king of the MFMT! Yes she did! Lots of changes. New characters will create even more ripples. All the stories feature different main characters but there's a lot of overlap and bleeding into one another’s stories. Pieces of this will set up for both Tara and Caydens future stories as well as Whelans though that will be subtle in this one. One of these years when they're all done, anyone who reads them in order will probably pick up on all the little nuances.

You know me by now @Cane23. I weeble and wobble bub don't fall down. And if I do, I get up after being dramatic fiest 😉. I appreciate the support! Halos is a tough one for most people especially the beginning. I'm hoping people if they give the lighter things a go first, will be less intimidated or think that's all I write. I try to go all over the map. Max and Roman have justvstarted and are already very diff. Buuut anyone wanting to try Halos and the rest of the series can now find them clumped under the Finding Home series so hopefully that helps. Tha know you for all your support from day one! ❤️ 💙 💜

I was a sped certified and I worked with 5 to 5 kids in private programs that worked in a lot of ABA and it was tough. Lots of internal singing. I only worked with one 6th grader once and lord Jesus... I was literally singing Sing Low Sweet Chariot...I have loooots of coping strategies if you ever need them. I'm working towards getting my CPS cert so it's all deep breaths and finding a happy place. I agree that in recent years behaviors are worse but a lot it parenting or, the lack thereof. I used to tell my Littles, we are in school and school has rules. That's it. Not mom and not dad. I was very lovey but also very very structured and would give "the eye" even during covid with stipid masks and they knew. I give you credit for still doing it daily. I'm serious about if you ever need strategies. I started in 2010 as a sub and Para first so I have an ungodly number of stories of things slung at me and hospital visits with black eyes and bites that needed tetanus shots. -smh-

News make the world go round! AND we get cool glasses to wear now! Those allergies will get you every single time . Always get me. Extra tissues to share at movies where allergies often occur 😆 I can't eat oreos anymore but I used to separate them [when they still used lard and you could lol] and then carefully stack all the fillings between two cookies, dunk and eat. The others I'd smash obto pieces and pour into some milk in a glass and let them get mushy and it was like a soggy oreo flurry!

Yessss it's been tough. Hah just turned 44 here and yep after 40, the warranties all wear out. My dad died earlier this January so it's been tough though it was twice because his dementia was so advanced. He needed to go home. I was happy to play along! Author support is so important. Keeps usball motivated. 😆 evil noooo..creative, YEP. I am like that as well. I like to write the fluffy stuff like Just Keep Swimming, but I do the gritty stuff when I need to get out of my head, like Halos where there are so many characters and things going on. The prompts help with that. Like I mentioned I have some new things I'm working on based off the prompts when I need breaks from longer pieces. Have you ever written the "death" of characters that seem very similar to real-life folks you know??? I have 😆 🤣 😂 And oye...do I know..I used to have 3 teacher voices; beginning of year it was sweetness and light, so happy to see them. By mid year we'd gone to "Kindy-pause!" and a reminder of the rules. By the end of the year it was all "no thank you sir/ma'am! Get it together please people!" That was when the singing would begin- me singing about leaving on a jet plane, unsure if I'd be back again. They found it funnier than my flight attendant voice. I loved them all, but it was daily survival games 😆 I'm actually working on a prek teacher piece for a prompt because the first line was something about if you touch my child I'll end you or something like that and my first thought was, PRE K/Kindy and the fruit loop parents. So that's happy fluff. They're all old prompts, but I just like them as little kick offs when I need motivation or a break from other things especially that I can't work anymore with Littles because of my MS progression. Getting over the age of forty hump a few years ago is equivalent with the less giving a frig about always seeming to have it all together 😉. We learn to keep swimming so to speak.
