  1. Well, don't expect rembrandt, but I'll volunteer.
  2. I'm pretty handy with photoshop and whatnot. What is it you want done?
  3. While gender roles have evolved and provide more leeway in this day and age, they remain the same except are no longer gender-specific. Meaning, in a gay relationship, one can be the "domestic goddess" and another the breadwinner. That's not always the case; my parents, for example, both work and then bitch about the housework at a later time, and I'm the only one who can do the laundry correctly. Anyway, your mother knows nothing to insult your career choice (I have the utmost respect for teachers), and you are not lowering yourself by doing what has to be done either way and not making a drama out of it.
  4. I live for the moment my characters get away from me, then I know I have something.
  5. Simply put; Erotica has a thousand words for one picture, porn has cheap manicures
  6. For me, the feedback I want is just a euphamism for rave reviews. Call me an egomaniac, but I get the occasional fan mail and it's all I need. If I want feedback, I'll snag myself an editor, which is about as easy to catch here as an albino deer. But that's another story.
  7. The thing about sex scenes in online stories is that if someone is looking for a sex story to... use, then they'll skip through plot, dialogue, and any other "distractions" whereas the inverse is true for people looking for a real story, they aren't in that "mode" so they skip the sex. Of course, Nifty being an erotica site, a certain level of sexuality is expected. One of my stories I submitted apparently was "ambiguous" when it came to the lead's female best friend, so it got put in the Bisexual section even though the main character was clearly gay. And then there's the sense of "urgency" to give your readers something at one point so they don't lose interest before the sex comes up. That's what I'm dealing with in Underworld.
  8. Go for it, we're all for experimentation here.
  9. The cinemetography is amazing, the use of Moonlight sonata is briliant, and I am now thoroughly in love with the photographer kid, Elias.
  10. Yeah... Actually, Com, that was my only problem with GFD. Just a bit of constructive critisism. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> True, but GFD pulls it off well. I found that to be more the case in "never Again" where I found myself thinking "Wow, this High School sure has a happening gay scene considering they're all nuerotic closet-cases" Don't get me wrong, it was one of my favorite stories, but it did tend to switch modes in that respect.

  12. Hope you have a great Birthday, Myr!
  13. haha, the next generation at GA. Happy Birthday!
  14. Yeah, English is a totally messed up language. My mother spent a yearabroad in Rome while at Skidmore, and never fails to compare the two cultures, so this is nothing new to me.
  15. Great, the last thing these psychos need is a scalpel in their hand
  16. I think this article is already in another thread in the Soapbox. Whatever, here's my response to it: I'm glad to hear about evidence of a biological influence in sexual orientation. I'm especially interested in the roles of pheromones (I have weird hobbies). Anyway, what I found most interesting is that not only do we have a male preference, but a gay male preference. Not only is it how we react to the scents, but it's the scents we give offwhihc differ as well from heteros. I guess the divide is wider than I imagined.
  17. Good point about dirty talk. It sounds sooo stupid out of context, so it requires a lot of sexual build up for it to work in the story with making the reader cringe.
  18. I toyed with animating my "R" (which I photoshoped) when I tried to learn Flash. Long story short: I cannot use Flash for my life.
  19. I read a story once which felt the need for some reason to list all the characters and their "stats" at the very beginning of the story. That was irritating for several reasons; A. I came for a story, not the personals section and B. it made the characters so dificult to keep track of. Another tip: cramming all the exposition in the very beginning is a very sure way to bore readers, try peppering it throughout as it becomes relevant. I prefer leaping right into the dialogue or a specific moment.
  20. I visited Com's site for a while and after I typed the URL "comicality.gayauthors.org" a few million times, it occured to me to check what else might be on gayauthors.org.
  21. Opps! I gues I;m starting to forget, it's been so long since a new chapter **ahem**
  22. Happy Birthday, Midwinter!
  23. For me, beginning writing was something I tried a while ago, and like most other things I've made, I hated it and changed it relentlessly over and over, deleted it, made new ones. The more I went through this process, the more I knew what writing a good story was. It was more than just a place to create a fantasy for myself, it was creating a whole other world, with its own heroes and problems. A place where I could still escape to, but at the same time had a substantial plot with which to sustain itself. This was before I became an avid reader of gay stories and learned even more. I got a feel for what was out there, and identified what I wanted to read. I figured there must be others who wanted to read something similar, so I should put one out there as a favor to anynone else who did. I know that's a weird way to start, but it's how I started Underworld. I actually started Underworld several times, sometimes getting pretty far. I loved one of the beginnings I had, back when it was "Dakest Love" and the concept was different, I was thinking of posting it as an aside. Whatever, I like the one I have now. Anyway, what was scariest for me was knowing that my work, my feelings, my best attempt at writing, soemthing I cared about, would be viewable by anyone. Not just anyone, but everyone, people who'd been reading these types of stories for a while and had set a standard for them that I had to live up to. Posting also keeps me progressing with a story, instead of going back and changing the same few pages over and over. Once it's out there, I know "Okay, I can't change that anymore, I can just add on to it" so I go on writing. Underworld was the kind of thing I wanted to see on Nifty and such, and it was sort of, but not exactly. Finally, I got over my laziness and just figured I should quit complaining and write it myself if I want it out there. I mean, that's how the rest started, right?
  24. Yeah, I want to know the backstory of why Bryson apparently hates mimicks so much.
