Please don’t be offended, @glennish, that I don’t completely agree with that. Well-meaning outsiders frequently unintentionally offend. Key words might have different implications due to historic usage that might not be known to someone who didn’t grow up as part of the group. ‘Mansplaining’ and pink cars are examples of men fumbling when dealing with women. Wealthy people appear to think that poor people are lazy, greedy, and somehow intentionally caused their own plight. There are numerous examples of straight people unintentionally offending LGBTQ people. Intentions are important, but cross-cultural interactions can be fraught with pitfalls. I think Gabe & Derrick were wrong to try to design a program themselves. Negotiating first would have been a better strategy!

And @Aceinthehole, while your banner is very pretty, it seems to be forcing my browser to display the story in a much wider field than I prefer. Even though I block the images in Safari, the banner width still causes problems. I opened the page in Firefox to see what was causing the page to be so wide and discovered the banner. Could you please edit the image into a narrower format?

Would the Council be more amenable to Gabe & Derrick funding a program developed, managed, and set up by the Tribal Council itself? ;–)

To observers not experiencing it. it appears that something causes the depression, but it's almost always the case that the depession is there and the ‘cause’ exasperates the condition. It's often the case of the straw that breaks the camel's back. In my case, I have had what used to be called Dysthymia (it's now just persistant mild depression) for over 50 years. My parents weren't aware of the significance of my symptoms. I was moody or grumpy, but not thought to be dealing with mental illness. Culturally and financially, it was unlikely that they would have wanted to pay for therapy for a child at that time. But psychology was even less widely accepted during that period in general.

While I’m not privy to what inspired this story, I’m very glad it’s not autobiographical (as proven by @MichaelS36’s Comment and Review). ;–) Death is a part of life. And life does go on after a loved one has died. It’s difficult enough when your parents and other relatives die, I cannot imagine what it’s like to deal with loss of a spouse.

My impression is that a few people who might be bisexual (even if they don’t identify as such), might project their own flexible sexuality on others who are more on the extremes of the Kinsey Scale. They might not really grasp that what is more or less fluid for them is not as universal as they think. I’m not saying that most or even many bisexuals are like that, just the very tiny percentage who are kind of clueless about that aspect of reality. And I do not claim to speak for any group, I’m only speaking for myself and my impressions based on my own experiences. ;–)

If you don’t give him to Trout, could you send him to me in the Bay Area, please? We got more than an inch of rain today, so our air is fresh and clear again for the first time in two weeks! ;–)

Reading about Tony’s family being Queens-raised Italians, I was reminded of the movie, Green Book. Viggo Mortensen plays a New York Italian bouncer who is hired to drive Mahershala Ali’s classical pianist character on a tour of the South. Viggo gained 40-50 lbs for the role, so he doesn’t look his best. But I enjoyed the movie anyway and recommend it especially to those of us who have never before heard of The Negro Motorist Green Book.

I think doctors are trying to give the patient and their family a sense of how much time they have left. If you are told you have only months to live, you will make very different plans from someone who is given decades to live. The shorter the prognosis, the more likely you’d try to rush to complete your bucket list! About a month ago, my (Lesbian?) Aunt was given six months due to a stomach cancer diagnosis. She had been a nurse all her life and did not want extraordinary measures taken, so there was no attempt at surgery. She hasn’t been eating much, so she’s very weak. When we lived in Hawaii, she and her at-the-time roommate, Bonnie, took us to the drive-in theater to see all the ‘60s Disney movies in Auntie Bonnie’s VW Bug. She celebrated holidays and most of our birthdays with us when we were young. She was the closest to my mother of the five sisters.

When I saw Parker House, I immediately thought of Parker Rolls! Apparently the Parker House roll was invented at the hotel in Boston in the 1870s. I don’t remember having them, but I must have had them at some point since I remember the name. ;–)
