    The Mentor

I’m sure anyone who pays attention (ie not Bob, Mrs Dewsbury, or Andy’s parents) would have been able to figure out that Andy and Tyrone already have a love/hate relationship that’s tilting more into the love region. Their verbal sparring that hides their mutual attraction. And the awkward gaps when their true feelings emerge only to be quickly diverted into safer arguments.

    Chapter 1

It took me many years to realize that fact. I’m going to claim youth as my excuse – and the distractions of their beauty. I doubt anyone would believe me if I said advanced age has made me less shallow… ;–)

    The Letters

Patience is not one of Oli’s known characteristics! ;–)
  4. We all knew that Joey was unlikely to survive because he was unable to change. I had a friend who I met when we were homeless. He had managed to kick a heroin addiction. He managed to quit methadone. He quit smoking. He even managed to quit drinking for a while. He had drunk so much alcohol that he’d burned away the surface of his esophagus. His doctors warned him that the next time he had another drink, he’d bleed out before the paramedics could get to him. I lost track of him for a while and am not certain what happened, but apparently things got bad again and he started drinking. He was found in a pool of blood in bed. I think he finally gave up. I feel some guilt that I was’t able to help him more. But it wasn’t up to me to fix him. He had to do it himself. But I learned a lot from having known him for those couple years. And I’m glad to have known him. I still miss him more than six years later…
  5. Because of his history, Dustin cannot believe it when both Brett and Billy tell him people love him. He just cannot grasp that truth. Somehow, his brain believes it’s a lie, a trick, or a meaningless polite fiction meant to make him feel better. His life won’t change until he starts to feel the truth of that love.

    Chapter 1

I remember the list of stereotypes mentioned in the Kevin Kline movie, In & Out. Neat and clean, well-dressed. A series of positive traits. ;–)

    Chapter 1

No Comments? That’s odd on a Sunday afternoon! Is everyone still gathering their thoughts or are they waiting for someone else to break the ice? ;–)

    Chapter 1

Neighbors (almost) always do the right thing after disaster strikes – natural or otherwise! ;–)
  9. I made a temporary, spice-free change just for @Sasha Distan! ;–)
  10. So it’s a true story then… ;–)
  11. I’m surprised you forgot to mention your absolute favorite sexy song, Afternoon Delight by Starland Vocal Band. Weren't you the one conceived while it was playing? Or was it one of your parents? ;–)
  12. I’ve read a bunch of free Kindle books that seem to have a few things in common. They’re not as creative as the stories I’m reading here. They were almost all written by straight women who just don’t have the experience to write realistic Gay or bisexual characters (I could name at least three authors here on GA who I believe identify as straight women who manage to create multiple realistic and unique Gay and bisexual characters and situations). And they’ve apparently written numerous books available for Kindle on Amazon. I have also ‘printed’ PDFs of the Reader View of stories on GA (just make sure to include the story’s name and chapter number in the title of the document). I’ve copied them into the Kindle app. It’s a couple extra steps, but it’s worth it when I want to read stories on my iPad. ;–)
  13. (PBS) World Channel is showing Considering Matthew Shepherd, a three-part oratorio by composer Craig Hella Johnson and the choral group Conspirer. It’s a repeat from last month. Check your local PBS station’s sub-channel to see if they’re showing it in your area.

You know ouR Eric should send new chapters for proofreading to you before he posts them, but he’s always in a hurry. Maybe now that he’s not working for the slavedriver he can relax and do some editing first. Nah! That’s not his style! ;–)
  15. I might have a wide range of knowledge, but it’s really very, very shallow (just like me!) with only occasional small areas with depth. ;–) Giugiaro is unusual in that he is one of the few well-known car designers, most toil in obscurity. He has been much more influential than nearly any other designer. He was even asked to create a prototype for Apple back in the early ‘90s, but he likes doing his designs freehand and Apple wasn’t happy with the imprecise results. ;–)
  16. That little treasure came to my attention via Lyssa. She’s also a treasure
  17. Who has a surprise Birthday Party at 4am? It's a good thing we don't know you IRL. Instead of a corpse, you'd probably prefer a blue crystal zombie*! ;–) When did you say your birthday is? ;–) * a blue-tinted ice sculpture might work!
  18. Giorgetto Giugiaro designed a series of concept cars: the Audi-Karmann Asso di Picche (1973), BMW-Karmann Asso di Quadri (1976), and the Isuzu Asso di Fiori (1979). Now if you, like me, don't speak Italian, you might wonder why the apparent non sequitur. Well, Asso di Picche is Italian for Ace of Spades, Quadri is Diamonds, and Fiori is Clubs (Cuori is the missing Hearts). Giugiaro most famously designed the DeLorean DMC-12 and the original VW Golf (Rabbit in the US and Canada). Lamborghini now owns the once independent Italdesign Giugiaro. Lamborghini (which also owns Ducati) is owned by Audi. Audi is owned by Volkwagen.
  19. It's amazing how much inappropriate advertising I was exposed to as a child. All those cigarette ads that are now banned from US TV. All the car magazines I used to read have them. Even The Advocate has them. But I don't remember The Flintstones cigarette ads. Unfortunately, I can still remember some of the jingles… It's interesting that the US Department of Justice has lumped together several seemingly unrelated issues into the ATF (the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives).
  20. The nudes weren’t classy enough? Or because he wasn’t riding a large motorcycle? Or both? ;–)
  21. He’s not really the Daddy type, right? ;–)
  22. That’s why, despite your claim (‘I’m the desert.’), you aren’t selling turquoise accessories! ;–)
  23. So Danny's nude pics worked? ;–)
  24. I just saw Dee Wallace on NCIS on Tuesday. She was the mom in the 1983 movie version of Cujo. The now-adult and Openly Gay Danny Pintauro was the kid. ;–)
  25. When my now-31-year-old nephew was very young, he wanted to dress up as Tinkerbell. His (maternal) grandfather bought him Pixie Dust and he kept trying to fly. His mother, who not only has a Gay brother-in-law (me!) but also has a Gay Uncle, decided she needed to convince him to dress up as Peter Pan instead. (I should mention that he did not inherit the orientation of his great-uncle and uncle.) When I was young, my parents allowed us to Trick or Treat. My mother made us candy-filled easter baskets and christmas stockings. When we were young, she also signed christmas gifts as ‘Santa’. All this even though my father was a very conservative Protestant minister. ;–)
