    Chapter 1

I figured out that Peter was probably part of the ruling family because Yuri hung around him like Security. His wanting to be invisible reinforced that. I did get the impression that he wasn’t from a wealthy country. These days, wealthy people wear the same brands of clothing, no matter where they are from. (The ultra wealthy are a different case, but they too wear similar clothing.) But Peter doesn’t feel like ‘Tony’ at all. ;-)
  2. I was going to say I prefer the Russell T Davies reboot over the original Doctor Who! ;-) But, to answer your real question, I preferred both – for different reasons. The original was raw and gritty. The remake was more inclusive (although still overwhelmingly white and privileged). They both had things they were better at.
  3. Maybe we wanted more than just 1½ seasons of the show? I watched the original first, then watched the remake. They also ‘adjusted’ the age of the young twink since our age of consent is higher. And I’ve often read about British kids peeking from behind the sofa because of their fright! Doctor Who was also notorious for its shaky sets! And all the running the Doctor and his Companions do. I remember being scared of the weird baby played by Clint Howard (Ron’s younger brother) in The Corbomite Maneuver episode of the original Star Trek series. As an adult, he specialized in playing the weird character in his brother’s movies. Some things stay the same even decades later! ;-)

    Chapter 13

We never had birthday parties like that. Our parties were just immediate family. When my (Lesbian?) Aunt lived nearby, she and her partner (a Sporty ‘roommate’ in Hawaii, a very conservative Dolphins fan in San Diego who she was with nearly 3 decades) would celebrate with us. We never had friends or neighbors at our parties. We only got a couple of gifts, including gifts from other relatives who weren’t as poor as we were.

Oh no! He’s binging on TV shows! And I’ve recommended Torchwood and Queer as Folk (which he hadn’t finished watching). I thought it was just scary movies! ;-)

    Chapter 9

I'm glad to see Joey back with the Wendelmeiers'. I finished this chapter having even more respect for the family.

    Chapter 6

I inwardly cringed when he went back to Tucker's home, and Tucker & his mother saw the state of Joey. I don't want them to kick him out because he's too much trouble. He's finally found a decent home and family willing to help and support him. At the same time, I feel bad for Joey. And I can understand why he's feeling and behaving the way he is. The scummy students at school didn't help any, when he returned. No wonder why he ran away from the school. Hope things pick up for him soon. Loving this story so far. On to chapter 7

Well, QaF/UK is only 1½ seasons long, unlike the 5 season long Showtime US/CA remake.

So we’d better hope you don’t decide to binge-watch Torchwood and/or Queer as Folk (the UK original) then? ;-)

    Chapter 5

As soon as Star mentioned she was in the hospital to visit someone else, I had a feeling that it was going to be Allen. I wonder how she knows him? Perhaps they're related. Another great chapter, Ronyx

    Chapter 4

Loving this so far. I also think that Joey's at a particularly tough spot, a difficult age where he's practically an adult. He's considered too old by most couples or families who're looking to foster or adopt. And almost , but not quite, old enough (legally) to live on his own, in an apartment somewhere and to be able to get a job to support himself.
  15. So @Wesley8890, if you haven’t seen Torchwood (which I highly recommend to you), have you seen any of Russell T Davies’ other series? Like the UK original Queer as Folk or Bob & Rose? Torchwood (an anagram of Doctor Who) is a more adult oriented (no, not sexually explicit) series than Doctor Who which is supposed to be a kid’s show. It aired later in the evening and the major characters from the first three Series were all depicted as having had at least one same-sex relationship even if they were primarily heterosexual. (Among the recurring characters, I liked PC Andy.)
  16. And then there are the little tidbits that only a Gay person like Russell T Davies would think to include. In an early episode of the reboot, a jukebox is described as ‘an iPod’ and is playing Tainted Love! The running gag where Cap’n Jack hits on any and everyone is another. Even Cap’n Jack’s aside to Martha hinting that they both are in love with the Doctor – a big change from when the Doctor/Companion relationship was parental or that of mentorship. (The fourth Doctor and Ramona were both Time Lords.)

    Chapter 3

Allen Foster intrigues me. I think I have some sort of background info about him based on the summary. But I'm interested in finding out more. On to chapter 4.

    Chapter 2

I'm happy to see Joey making some acquaintances / friends. Maybe this is the beginning moment of his life getting better.
  19. What I always found amusing was seeing actors I’d known from other shows and even movies guesting on Doctor Who. Just like Star Trek, the show has been on for so long, it has tons of fans who seem to go out of their way to appear. I’m sure I miss many of them since I’ve only seen a handful of British TV shows (ones that have been on PBS mostly).

    Chapter 12

All the characters, with the possible exception of Star, are badly damaged. (In Ticker’s case, it’s his weight. With Gene, it’s his bullying father. With Mrs Albright, it’s her marriage and her shattered family.) Everyone is struggling with their own baggage. Joey doesn’t realize how much that affects some of them, he sees Ticker’s pain to a degree and he’s beginning to understand some of Allen’s issues. In many ways, Allen is exactly like Joey, he’s so caught up in his own suffering, he doesn’t always stop to understand why Joey has done what he has to survive. They’ve both placed the other on an impossible pedestal that will only cause the other to fall in their eyes when they prove to be human.
  21. What I remember most about my 25th birthday was getting a refund check from my car insurance company because my rate dropped when I hit that milestone! I was suddenly a lower risk to them. I’m not so sure about that since I was still getting speeding tickets fairly frequently, although fewer than before.
  22. Good luck on your MPhil interview too! Even if it’s not a random Member of Parliament who’s being interviewed like I thought at first! ;-)

    Chapter 1

Off to a great start. Poor Joey. Unfortunately, there are a lot of real life 'Joeys' out there, with useless and abusive parents. Leaving these kids desperate not just for food and shelter, but also for some emotional support.
  24. Have you seen God’s Own Country yet? It’s set in Yorkshire and was written/directed by a guy who grew up on a farm in Yorkshire. One of the lead actors was sent to the director’s father’s farm for prep for the role. That movie and All Creatures (mmm – Peter Davison!) are all I know about Yorkshire! ;-)

    Epilogue

Great story. I think this is the second or third time I've read this now, over the years. Although I'm only just now reviewing it for the first time, I'm not sure why I hadn't before. But I just wanted to leave a review, and my thank you for creating this story and sharing it with us.
