  1. @AC Benus KQED World is on Xfininty 190 according to KQED.
  2. I’m sorry I don’t know where on the West Coast you live, but most of the metro areas have some sort of event this month. If you listen to TV and you can get San Francisco’s KOFY-TV, they will be broadcasting the SF Pride Parade during the evening of the 25th from 6-11pm. In another thread, I mentioned PBS’s special programming this month. POV, a documentary program, has many documentaries available on their site. I’m more aware of the things available for the hearing impaired and haven’t really paid enough attention to the visually impaired. I’ll try to do better in the future…
  3. With my advanced age (at least compared with you), I only do one thing to celebrate: Frameline, the San Francisco International LGBTQ Film Festival. But I plan to be there 10 out of the 11 days (I can’t afford the extra cost Opening and Closing Night Films and it’s not worth my effort to attend the other film showing after the Opening Night Film, but I will see several programs on the final day before the Closing Night Film).
  4. @AC Benus It was on broadcast 9-3 KQED World Channel. I don’t know what channel it is on Comcast. It’s repeating at midnight (and probably several other times). Or you can watch it on the PBS site.
  5. HAPPY BIRTHDAY and happy returns of the day
  6. Is it on now...? Channel 9 has some 60's music revival program on....
  7. You’re not going to download something special from Netflix or iTunes? There are plenty of suggestions on a couple different threads here in the Lounge and the Pit. Do it for Robbie! ;-)
  8. I’m watching Out in the Night, a repeat of the POV documentary about the seven Lesbians who were falsely convicted of beating a man in New York. It was clearly self-defense, but they were convicted in the media before most of the facts were known. It is frustrating to watch because you can see the truth even while the judge and jury decided otherwise. You can watch full documentaries on POV, including Out in the Night! This would make a nice double-feature with Southwest of Salem, another documentary about Lesbians who were falsely convicted, but had their cases overthrown (although this happened after the documentary was completed).
  9. What will you do to celebrate this month?
  10. Happy Birthday!!!! Valkyrie Have a good time! @Valkyrie
  11. Awesome. I've always liked both Herr and Frau Schumann I should find a couple of pieces to post
  12. As you are aware, I had a difficult time reading this story. After I’d gotten a couple paragraphs into this chapter, I realized that Gordy had died. It surprised me just how many people were aware of John’s relationship with Wylie and later Gordy even while John was oblivious to that fact. It’s my impression (as an outsider) that people in small towns who know about a same-sex couple are likely to not talk about that fact, if they like the two – the couple becomes the exception. In many cases, they aren’t aware of just how many Gay people they know and like because nobody talks about it. My life has been so different from any of these characters that it sometimes made it difficult for me to identify with their problems. But part of the reason I do read stories about people and situations unlike my own is to learn about cultures and situations. I think I’ll be digesting this story for quite a while…

    Chapter 14

I don’t think he drove Gordy off. I think Gordy is returning after being away a school – and maybe the military after that. ;-) Those don’t sound like the slurs yelled by typical homophobes or bashers. The word ‘selfish’ indicates it’s someone with some sort of vested interest in the person being yelled at. Like a rival, rather than a stranger.

    Chapter 13

Was the relationship between Joe Don and John’s father ever physical? It seems like John and his father were a whole lot more similar than they ever admitted to each other. It’s no wonder that Wylie was accepted so readily into the family. I’m just surprised that it took Mary Ann so long to figure things out.

    Chapter 12

It feels like John is marrying Linda to spite Wylie. I cannot imagine feeling that violated and still maintaining a friendship. I would certainly not have kept going to see my rapist without familial pressure.
  16. 0.9 = 1 ? Can you prove it false?

My father died later as I was about twelve of thirteen. Does Edwin have Borg implants too? ;-) It didn’t take long, but I found a think of petroleum jelly, so we were fine. A think of petroleum jelly. Is that like a pack of dogs or a flock of geese? ;-) What‽ No Spotted Dick‽ Or is that coming later? I’m sure if I grew up with them, I’d have eaten them too. And there are probably things I eat that others think are disgusting – vegans would hate that I eat meat being one example. My mother used to make us eat liver (until stories started coming out in the ‘70s about how it stored poisons), I’ve eaten hot dogs, and I’ve had giblet gravy. But otherwise, I’ve avoided knowingly eating inner organs – I won’t eat Menudo or anything like it!
  19. At my university we had the saying, that Mathematicians are not as worse as Physicians. The Physician buildings needed a bridge to cross from one building to the other, so that the Physicians didn`t need to cross the street and be safe. (A really small cobble stone street.)
  20. [bitter sarcasm] Since this topic is about ‘Mayor’ Adam West, shouldn’t it be moved to the Pit too? [/bitter sarcasm]
  21. Ahh understand, that is what I was thinking of. I must say, I know some people from the race court in Berlin. And that has me made, to not to like horse races. So I can not say, that there is a favorite race I have.

    Chapter 20

A Texas Drawl with a Russian Accent? Are you that invested in a fictional character?
