    Chapter 2

Commissario Sassetti was a lean man with greasy black hair and a piercing look. Adam and Steve sat down in front of Sassetti’s messy desk. Commissario Sassetti measured them from behind it. "I’ve already informed you of the reason of our visit. I think our case of burglary and your case of murder are connected," Steve said without any introductory words. Commissario Sassetti looked at Steve, and then pulled a cigarette from a packet. He pushed the cigarette between his lips and lit it. Sassett

    Chapter 1

Cold Case by Dolores Esteban "A case of burglary," Steve Mills said. He placed a folder on Adam’s desk. Adam Johnson looked up with surprise. It was his first day in the office. Adam had just joined the cold case team. "A case of burglary?" he asked back in confusion. Steve gave a nod. He opened the folder and took a bunch of photos out of it. "Two years ago, someone broke into Derek Peterson’s house. The house was empty. Peterson is a wealthy banker. He was on a vacation, in some e
  5. Damian Greene (A Life’s Tragedy) Dear Charlotte, I thank you for your kind letter. I received the sad news today. I remember Sir Graham Livingston well. His death does truly touch me. As to your question, yes, I remember the man. However, I can tell you only little about him. What most confused me about him was his predilection for secrecy combined with his attitude of provoking people whenever he saw a chance to do so. This combination of traits disturbed a lot. I remember many din

  7. Jonathan Cullen (The Loss of Innocence) "Sir, I’m going to repeat my question," the stout cop said with a mischievous look. "Mister Jonathan Cullen, where have you been on Tuesday evening last week, between eight and half past eight?" "That was one week ago. You should remember it," his companion added. They were standing in front of my door and I gazed at them, feeling totally annoyed. The men were bothering me. I had just sat down at my desk in order to write a report. The elevator at th

  12. Nathan O’Neale (A Certain Justice) The place was overgrown with grass. Gone was the past, and with it the secret, the pain, and the shame. Not entirely, he admitted unwillingly, as he was still alive. He was the last witness, the last one who knew of the events that had happened so long ago. He was the last one who had been involved, but he hardly remembered those dreadful events. A benevolent veil had covered the past, had sheltered his mind, and had subdued his pain. The veil had been like

    Breathless

A very good story. It was well-structured and very believable. I found the ending - the four astronauts looking down on Earth - was excellent.
