I just was completely caught off guard by chapter 4. I was so not ready for Tony to tell Will that he loved him. I am shocked that he was able to tell any man/boy that he loved them in a sexual/romantic way. I think this is going to be the start of a very bumpy ride for both of them. I have never been sure that Will really loved Tony as much as he loved how Tony made him feel because the sex was so good but this is the first time that I can remember Will telling someone that he loved them like this since John. I hate in a way that Hank is going to turn out to be a really nice person probably. It is going to be just that much harder when 9/11 comes around and either she doesn't make it or is impacted by that tragedy. I don't think that any New York City first reponder whether police, fire, ems, or communication walked away that day without be touched by the horror of that day. Great chapter Mark, and I can't wait to see where you take us next...

I guess I am looking at this from a completely different place than either of you... It seems to me that both of you are actually making my point for me. B1ue, my take is that Marie owed Will her silence exactly because she is family. Family is who you involve in situations like that and expect them to keep their mouth shut no matter what, especially this family. Jeremy, you indicate that Menlo is small and for a secret like that to be kept for that long it probably does mean that Will and Kyle WERE being very discreet. For it to take that long in such a small social arena for that to come out no one could have been talking about it. The fact that only when a family member blabbed and was overheard by the third party in the situation was what it took to come out means that more than likely no one knew about it outside of Will, Kyle, Marie, John, and maybe the staff at Escorial... What are the odds that the staff was talking to someone about a member of the family? Plus, how did Marie find out? Do you really think this was something that Will would have told Marie about? It seems that Marie would have had to have done some serious snooping to find out and then it really is her job to keep the information to herself. You know from chapter 1 that Will and Marie had fought about the situation but you really don't know how she found out. I am not sure that Will would have told Marie that he was sleeping with Kyle; it seems more likely that Marie found out Kyle was coming up to see Will twice a week and she made it her business to find out what was going on. I just really believe that especially within the confines of this family and story that family is really everything. It doesn't matter what another family member does you deal with it inside the family only... You never take anything outside the family unless the family as a group makes that decision. Without some insight into why Marie opened her mouth and made sure that Eric knew, we will never really know her motivation. The fact remains it doesn't matter why she did it; she was wrong... I think that Norway was the perfect comparison. I think it showed that no matter what the situation that Claire would be willing to sit down and discuss any situation with Will. She probably isn't going to try and tell him he is right or wrong; but she is going to make sure that he understands all aspects of the situation and knows what he needs to know to make a decision. Claire has always been the one person in the family that is there for everyone else; that is why her daughter's breach of confidence is so much more shocking that if it came from someone else.

Okay, I have two suggestions for chapter 4... When Will is telling Tony about his situation with Kyle, " Follow Me " by Uncle Kracker and then when Tony tells Will he loves him, " Don't Tell Me " by Madonna... What does everyone think???
-
Damn, I so did not see Tony being at a place that he could tell another man/boy that he loved him in a romantic way. This was a complete suprise to me but in a good way. I have never been sure how Will really felt about Tony, how much of his feeling were being swayed by how outstanding the sex is??? I was really glad to see how Hank was shown in this chapter. This makes it just that much harder to resist her and you know she is being set up to suffer on 09/11. I don't know if she will be one of the people killed but no New York City police officer escaped the pain of that day.

Well, as I have stated before, I don't have as much of an issue with Will's behaviour because I don't think it is his responsibility to keep someone else faithful. I don't think it is ever a good idea to get involved with someone that is in a relationship but that being said, it is up to the person in the relationship to say no... I do think Tim is right about this being more of an ethical or moral issue but I am not sure that Will is trying to do anything other than get his own footing and decide where and what he wants to stand for. I am not sure that Will would take his stand on this to other areas of his life. Any decision that Will makes now will evolve and change as he comes more into himself and the man he will become, it is simply part of growing up and deciding what kind of person you are going to be. My problem with Marie is that I think it is pretty clear that she set out to let Eric know and made sure she was overheard. I don't know if John was a patsy or semi or fully aware of her plan. Marie is starting to come across as a little jealous of Will. I think she sees this guy that is her age that is already fully in control of his life, at least legally. He looks several years older than he is; people think he is hot; and he seems to get away with anything, and this pisses her off. Plus, I am worried about the fact that Will was able to prove in the last chapter that she never seems to apologize for anything she does but makes everyone grovel when they do something she doesn't like. This is a major sign of upcoming problems. I think you are all wrong about Claire. I think that if Marie had come to her and told her about her concerns with Will sleeping with someone that was in a relationship that Claire would have spoken to Will. I don't know how she would have handled it but as you saw in Norway; she has no problem talking to Will about the direction he is taking in his life. I think Claire is fully aware of the limitations that Will has in his relationship with his mother and while she would never try to become his mother would be fully capable of stepping into that role when she felt he needed her.

Team Recognition Month

Mark, Your two series are about the only ones that I faithfully follow online anymore for a variety of reasons. I periodically will say something about those that support you in one of my reviews or post but it is nice to see what each of them do for you on a regular basis... I love to see Sharon's comments in the forum or on the rare times she does a review; and when she responds to something I write, I float around all day like well a fairy... LOL... Jeremy does something that you did mention that I really enjoy and that is the music recommendations for the chapters. I know this is something that is more his deal than yours per se but it is something that I really enjoy and I know it is time consuming but it is greatly appreciated. Sometimes the song he selects for a paticular scene will actually change or alter how I view the scene when I go back to re-read the chapter. To everyone else that helps in whatever capacity a big THANK YOU, without all of the support that each of you gives, Mark would not be able to keep the output level that he does or the level of quality. You are all the BEST... -
Mark, we always want a Granger fix; a chapter a day wouldn't be enough for me but I do understand real life does sneak in and cause issues. You have to have your schdedule that fits your needs. We will bitch and moan but wait faithfully while you get us the next chapter of this amazing story...

I am going to cut Hank some slack for the moment. She seems good with Maddy as Will noted plus I think it is hard to like someone that you feel will be dying in a few months... I have to say the idea of Jeanine and Hank going to Rome with Will does bring up several interesting ideas but I have to wonder if any of them would survive... Plus, you know that Will needs some Tony time to work on deciding how he really feels about him. I am not sure that Will is really as into Tony as he thinks he is; the sex is great but is there anything else there??? I hope that we get to see Will and JJ with Alistair. He is one of the more interesting new additions to the CAP series and I would love to see a little more interaction with him...
-
Really like all the choices that you have picked out... There was a song by a band called Eden's Crush that sort of fit the situation with Will and Hank going at it but damn, I just can't remember the name of it... Great work...
-
Great chapter and really enjoyed all the wordplay and dancing around that everyone did. I thought Will handled himself really well, maybe better than Brad was doing. I don't know that we can judge Hank yet, this interaction wasn't really enough to swing my opinion one way or the other. She seemed to be really good with Maddy and small children often can sense a person's true behaviour better than adults. If you ever have someone that a small child just hates watch out, they are usually right about them. I think part of the reason that I am having trouble with the idea of really liking or finding anything to like about Hank is that you just know as a New York City police officer that she is the perfect person to kill off on 9/11. It is hard to really want to like someone when you feel like they won't be around more than a few months...

I hate when I agree with Private Tim but Mark has woven a great deal of morality, ethics, and philosophy throughout all of his stories. While this can dovetail into religious area, it doesn't have to. He is also right, both the CAP and the even better Bridgemont series are both works of true literary merit and should be treated as such. I do differ with most of you on Will's behaviour because I think that Will is right. Humans are not biologically designed to be monogamous and that is something that everyone in a committed relationship must work toward. Will is not responsible for helping anyone else be or stay monogamous. If any of the guys that decide to sleep with Will are in relationship with someone else; it is their responsibility to say no to Will and keep their hands off him, not the other way around. I think that Will has demonstrated a great deal of care for other people in numerous ways but staying out of the bed of a guy that wants to sleep with him but is seeing someone else is not something that any fifteen year old is probably capable of. Marie's behaviour bothers me a great deal more than anything Will has done. If there is anything that ties all of the CAP stories together it is the idea that family comes first. I think that Marie really set out to let Eric know and used a conversation with John to accomplish that. I have a feeling that the conversation with Claire that is coming is gonna be electric.
-
I know it is totally bubble gum rock but I loved that song... It is a great choice for that moment at the dinner table...
-
I really do believe that Will is right; his job is not to help anyone stay faithful. Humans were not designed biologically to be monogamous and it is something that everyone most work at being if they are in a committed relationship and are suppose to be exclusive. It is up to each person to make that decision and keep it. I agree that Claire must be very upset for her to leave during the meal. Claire has always been about family first and to find out that her daughter and son were airing another family members business in public would be very upsetting for her. Marie is going to have to come down off her high horse or she may be in for some rough times ahead. A cop in New York City, Will and JJ in Europe in early September, and Jeanine and Maddie in New Jersey sounds like a lot of links are already showing up to tie the family to the tragedy. Great chapter and can't wait for the next one...
-
Okay, I am going to take another point of view on the issue of Will's behaviour. I agree with Will; it is not his job to police the actions of anyone that he is sleeping with. Will can't make Kyle faithful to Eric and it isn't his job to try. I do think that it is better not to see someone that is in a relationship but it isn't your job to keep anyone else on the straight and narrow, so to speak. I am more concerned with the fact that Marie and John were discussing something so private in a venue that allowed them to be overheard; I have to wonder if one of them didn't want the information to come out... Mark is already setting up several people to be in place to be directly involved with the tragedy of that day and the aftermath. Elle is in New York, so Darius might be as well even if they are not together at the moment. Wade and Matt are going back East with Nana, although we don't know exactly why yet or for how long. JJ and Tiffany could be in Bulgaria or elsewhere with skating issues. Will could be in Europe or heading back home around that time... Way to go Mark, let's put everyone in danger... I really like the idea of hearing from several people as narrators during this story. This was an event that truly touched everyone in a different way, why not let that show... I do think that JP is the only must! Great first chapter and can't wait to see where Mark takes us on this ride.
-
Well, I loved all the songs except this one... I just always hated Nelly... He is in that group with P Diddy or whatever he calls himself that to me never had any talent except self promotion...
-
Thrilled that the story is back and glad to see that chapter one started with such a bang... I am going to take a different point of view and say that I think that Will is right. It is not his job to police the relationship status of those he is seeing. Yes, he did know that Kyle and Eric were seeing each other but it is Kyle's job to stay faithful to Eric; Will does not have a responsiblity to keep Kyle faithful. Yes, I do think that if you are smart you don't get involved with someone in a relationship, but that being said; unless you are in one yourself, you don't really have responsibility to act or not to act depending on the case... I am a little shocked that Marie and John would be so indiscreet as to talk about a family members action in a location that they could be overheard. I have to wonder if one or the other didn't want someone to find out... I can see several narrators being used during this story and you can already see several people in play to be involved in or near the tragedy.
-
Another great chapter that was well worth the wait, although another Granger fix soon would be appreciated... I have to say this is just the best series online for me... I can't imagine a reason that Granger would not accept the Viceroy has made. It would make Granger and the others wealthy beyond what most of them can even imagine... I would think the Admiralty would treat this as if they captured the ship and the prize money would be divided as such but maybe Westie or someone else can add something about that... I have to wonder if there isn't something else behind the Viceroy's offer??? I wonder if he knows something that Granger doesn't; after all he seems well versed in Granger's mission... I wonder if other ships are lying in wait between Lima and Manila? Maybe the ties between Maidstone and the East Indian Co are more extensive and more is going on then Granger or us are aware??? If Granger makes the deal to protect the Spanish ship; you can bet that he won't allow another ship, even a British one to intercept it...
-
I have no problem with Will starting as the narrator but as the date gets closer to that awful day and those that followed; I can't imagine anyone other that JP being the one anyone wants to hear from... I really do believe that the gravitas of the situation demands JP as one of the narrators. I could see this as being a story that has multiple narrators at different points but JP is a must...
-
Another great chapter to my favorite story on the web, not even the CAP series tops this one for me... I can't imagine a reason that Granger would not take the deal being offered. It would make everyone involved wealthy beyond what most of them can even contemplate. That on top of what Calvert has gotten will make them all targets of speculation on their return to England. I have a feeling the reason that Calvert transferred the silver is he is going to use the Spanish ship to sail into that port and get the supplies that they need. This will be a daring move that really isn't needed as the Viceroy would probably supply most of what they need if Granger takes the offer; of course, there is no way for Calvert to know any of this at the moment... I would think the Admiralty would look at this as if it was a capture and the prize money would be split as usual but I might be wrong about this... I know, I know, I am so rarely wrong but it does happen... LOL... Great work Mark and can't wait for the next one...

Glad to see that Granger is back in the game. The way he handled himself when returning the young Spanish Lt is why those that befriend him and those that by the unfortunate guise of war have to few him as an advesary both view him as an true officer and a gentleman. I am sure that Spanish colonel will have nothing but nice things to report back to Spain no matter what the Spanish govenor tries to say. Well, it looks as if Granger and the others will capture a treasure ship. Even if it is not one of the big gold ships, a ship that size with silver will make those involved more wealthy then most can even comprehend. If Granger can take the ship, then his place will be secure no matter what anyone does. That kind of wealth will basically make him untouchable even more than he is now; an increase in peerage would not even be out of play for something like that. Listening to Calvert babble, just can't like the man, it amazes me how two people with such different views of life and love can tie themselves together and do so much to hold onto one another. If a true man like Travers could not hold and keep Granger, you will never convince me a pale imitation of one like Calvert will be able to in the end...
-
Granger returning of the young Spanish Lt showed what a true officer and gentleman was like. This is what endears him not only to his friends but those that are called enemies by the expediency of war. I am so excited that Granger will be capturing a treasure ship. Even if it is not one of the gold ships; a ship that size filled with silver will make everyone involved wealthy beyond the ability to comprehend for most of those involved. Calvert's musing are interesting because they give us a glimpse of someone that has a completely different view of relationships from Granger. I have never hidden my feelings about Calvert, wish he would die; but it is funny how those that have such opposite views on life and love can tie themselves together and in knots trying to stay as one.

What Happens Next In CAP?
centexhairysub replied to methodwriter85's topic in Mark Arbour Fan Club's Topics
Yes, I am all for a look see in at Claremont. I always like the story when something is going on there. It is a great place to visit, mind you I don't want to live there but.... -
Patience is a virtue but who the hell ever said I was virtuous.

I don't know; it just seems with the subject matter that the next story will cover that the narrator will require a certain gravitas. I still think JP is the best person to be the narrator for the 9/11 story. I can see a split narration with someone younger to give a perspective from another generation but I do think JP has to be involved. Maybe the first three-way, get your mind out of the gutters, narration; JP, Brad/Robbie/Cody/Claire, and then Matt/Will/Gathan from the younger generation. 9/11 is such a seminal event that I really think it demands JP as one of the narrators. I, of course, will survive no matter who the narrator ends up but have you noticed how I whine when I don't get something I really want???

I just thought this chapter and story were both scary, crazy, and wonderful. I think in a weird way that is what makes life so great; you just really don't ever know what is going to happen. I thought the scene at the funeral and afterward in the car between Will and Brad was so well written and it just brought a certain symmetry to the story. We got a glimpse of one of the definning moments in Brad's life and how it shaped him. While I don't think this will necessary be the same for Will, he was able to experience an event that forces all of those touched by it to take a look at their own lives. The final section in Hawaii was really well done as well. I thought that Will showed great restraint and Brad trusted him enough to let him know what was going on not just with him but Lark/Scott as well. Scott seemed to read and make a really quick decision, this was the only thing that I would question the quickness of it; but I can see him going with his gut feeling, plus the fact that Jeff has been accepted to such an extent within Brad's families lives. The fact that Stef and Brad and everyone else trust and supports Jeff would have to count for a great deal to Scott. I was also glad to see that Ryan is going to have a way of staying in the story and maybe getting a boost as well; now if only Alistair will turn out to be someone's long lost nephew... Great story, great writing, and a great time; thanks Mark for letting us into this world you have created...
