That is actually a great choice and it fits not just this chapter but really the whole story for this one. The song that was playing in my head the whole time I was reading this last chapter was " The Way We Were " by Barbra Streisand. I am not usually even a big Babs fan but for some reason that just seemed to fit for me... -
Chapter 100: Final Chapter
centexhairysub commented on Mark Arbour's story chapter in Chapter 100: Final Chapter
I swear the whole time I was reading this last chapter, " The Way We Were " by Barbra Streisand was playing in my head... Not just this chapter but this whole story was one of the best in the CAP series for many reasons. I really felt by the end that I was experiencing the angst and drama with those in each chapter. I liked how the story came full circle and how it showed that sometimes it isn't what family you are born into but the family that you choose that can make all the difference; sometimes that is one and the same but it doesn't have to be the case. I think it is great that Ryan's mom is probably going to turn out to be Jeff's mother as well. I think this is a good way to keep Ryan in the hold so to speak as well. Now if Alistair can only be someone's long lost nephew... LOL... -
Well, the point of my post is that if Will does just blurt it out; then all the hard won respect and how others have viewed him as maturing will be for naught. I think that Will has matured greatly over the last several months but if he can't control himself and understand that other and maybe more important considerations are involved; then maybe Brad, the family, and the judge was wrong about granting him his emancipation. I fully expect and would even hope that Will, Brad, and those involved discuss this forcefully, honestly, and with a look at what is best for all. I just think or more honestly hope, that Will has matured to the point that he does realize and take into account how this will impact not just Jeff but everyone involved. As I stated earlier, ABC is still alive and still very wealthy and that can bring a lot of pain down on everyone involved if a mistake is made. I hope that you are right and Will does know and understand the dangers involved in this scenario. Well, sorry, I really had not taken time to read any of the post before me when I came in and posted what I did. I do agree with your post but what I am hoping is that Will has matured enough over the last several months that he will realize that this is a decision that he is not fully qualified to make based on everything involved. Part of growing and maturing is knowing when you can take the lead and when you have to follow. Part of my post was really about my hoping that Will has reached the point where he is beginning to understand this and can step back and allow more experienced individuals to take the lead and make the final decision. I am not saying that Will cannot make his thoughts, feelings, and arguments known, he should; but they should not be the deciding factor in this action.

Gave a review last night after I read the chapter but had a busy day and just getting to the forum, I really enjoyed every aspect of this lastest chapter. I thought the writing and how the situations played out rang so true to life. I thought that it was especially poignant that Will was who Shane said goodbye to and thought how Will handled telling JJ was just shattering. I don't know that I agree with the decision of the family and therapist to have Will tell JJ but the writing and the aftermath was just spot on. I think that Will's family and others forget that Will isn't an adult in actuality. I think that while Will has grown and matured tremendously over the last few months; there are still positions that I don't know that he should be put in and this might have been one. While I think Will handled himself exceptionally well, JJ may associate Will with this encounter in a negative light and I could see this causing issues down the line. Mark, you wrote the scene with JJ with so much authenticity that I just have to say Bravo... You have been able to shine a light on how we view mental illness in more than one way in this story and I just have to say thanks... I did so love being right about Lark/Scott being Jeff's biological father. I don't know how or why it came to me but it did in the middle of the night. As I stated in my review; I am not sure how Lark/Scott will react to being a father but often people suprise us in the best ways possible. I can see Will being really conflicted in how he handles this; he is going to want to tell Jeff that his father is alive and well and living in Hawaii but he can't be the one that makes that decision. If Will wants to be treated like an adult; then he is going to have to act like one. I can see Brad having to involve JP in reaching Will on this. I do think that Jeff will find out about Lark/Scott but only after Lark/Scott is advised and some discussion on how safe it will be for Jeff to actually be made aware of the facts. Alexandra C. is still alive and still very wealthy; it would not do for her to discover that Lark was still among the living, plus she might try and strike at Lark through his son. Just when I am not sure how another story in the CAP saga will measure up, you go and do something as great as this; Mark, I really believe your talent is truly remarkable.

I just love being right.... I can't wait to see how this plays out. I can't see Lark/Scott as a Dad but you know sometimes people can suprise you so much. The scene with JJ was so well written. It played out so real that it could have been taken from any number of therapy sessions/encounters that I could name. Will has matured so much and so fast that it seems that even his family can forget that he is still a child. I was so glad to see that Brad set up a session with Will's therapist. I can't wait to see how this plays out not just in the last chapter coming up but as Mark moves the story forward.

I laughed, I cried, I came; what more could anyone want from a story...... BRAVO!!!!!

This was a great chapter. I really loved how Wade understood Robbie enough to get through to him without causing any serious bloodshed. I like the peek we all got of the Wade/Matt/Tiffany dynamic that I think will be more interesting as time goes by; Riley is going to tie them together more than any of the realize at this moment. Wade is going to have to learn to balance his life and decide when he has to say no for his own sanity. Riley and Matt are always going to be the most important people in his life but he also has Will/Nana/his father/JP and so many more. One person can only give so much before they start to lose part of themself that isn't always easy to get back.

I tried to leave a chapter review but it would never take then it took a blank one... AHHHHH.... I thought this was a great chapter. I really loved all the drama and interaction at the party. I thought that Will and the others handled things really well with both Brad/Robbie and JP/Stef. I can totally see where JP is coming from and why he locked the gates based on the past. Sometimes ghost can haunt us in the most suprising ways, or just when we remember the past and think of choices made or not made. Will seems to want one person ever so often; then he seems to not want to be tied down but to be able to enjoy all the possible experiences that he can find. When you are that age, it is never easy to know your own mind much less your own body... I think Will handled the situation with Jeanine and Maddy just perfectly. You can often not tell what someone undergoing those treatments will react to. With Jeanine making that kind of connection, if even a momentary one, with Maddy; those supporting her and her physicians need to be aware of it. They can try and build on that connection. Another great chapter Mark; I think I am in love with how your mind works....

The Spanish captain died immediately after the ship was boarded. I am pretty sure the description of the damage means that the Captain's quaters suffered severe damage during the gun battle; plus the fire started before they could even start to organize anything. I am not sure that Granger would have risked any of his men on the off chance that any papers found would really prove beneficial. The only thing that might have been mentioned is how they knew Granger and his ship was going to be in the area but the Captain may or may not have been privy to that information. I have to admit, I forgot about the Lt; I do hope he survived and is on Calvert's little ship. Would be sad to lose such a brave man no matter who he had been fighting for.

I woke up in the middle of the night and the name that came to me was Lark.... He would so fit...

Mark, the scene with JP and Will was just masterful. I really find that at least for me, JP is still the heart and soul of the CAP saga. While others may act as narrator, he is still the one that holds the most intrest for me. I thought the way you navigated the conversation between them was exceptionally well done. For JP to open up to Will to the extent that he did; showed how much hope and faith he has in Will. While I can see the series surviving JP's death; if you are still interested in writing it, his loss will be hard to overcome. I have said it before, and of course, will say it again; Claire is the only person at the moment that is capable of leading the next generation after JP goes to his great reward arguing with Tonto... Brad might be qualified to be Grand Marshall and lead the troops into battle but the last few stories in the saga have showed why he is clearly not the one to lead the next generation. I could see that generation holding in the mold of the current one, but do have to agree it is harder to see Matt/Wade/Darius/Will/JJ/Marie/John/etc one being molded in the same manner.
-
I have to agree with Westie; Fox just has to much to lose with not enough upside for it to be him tipping off the Spanish. I could see it if he was getting more benefit but there doesn't seem to be enough upside in this for him. I thought the new chapter was excellent. The way that Granger took only a few minutes to view the situation, make a decision, and then execute it is why he is so successful. The ability to take action in that manner is very rare. Calvert even did a semi good job in this chapter as well. I have to wonder if Granger has decided to send Calvert back to England with his ship or keep him with him until his journey ends. I still think we need to find somethig out; maybe the Spanish midshipman will get a little tipsy and let something spill about the treasure ships leaving and heading west... Granger just has to capture a treasure ship; he might even get a bump to an Earldom for that one... I bet Mark can find an adventure or two on the island where they are as well; not sure what they will be but I bet there are there if we look for them...
-
Well done as always, the chapter was a wonderful early evening enjoyment. I really like how Granger took only a moment to size up the situation and then decided on his course of action. Once he started he kept at it, and of course it was successful. It was nice to find out that the nice officer in the last port brought his prodigy up with manners as well. You never know when those are going to count. I was really hoping that Granger would end up with a ship of the line but I guess destroying it at least takes it out of play. I can't tell if Granger has decided what to do with the Santa Clarita or not; I vote he send Calvert back to England with it...
-
JP rocks and he is so my hero... I was so awed that he opened up to Will to the extent that he did; it isn't that Will doesn't know some of his past but to share something like he did just says so much. I sort of hope that Will and Noah end up as great friends, with or without the benefits. They seem to have so much to offer to each other.
-
I knew I was right to blame Calvert... I don't suppose he could expire while heroically boarding the other ship??? I can't believe you ended it there... You are a bad bad man Mark... I love that you took time to have Granger go through so much internally and we got a chance to see how he thinks and works out issues. This was another great chapter and can't wait to see how they board the ship...

Since, Mark has said that Jeff isn't going to be Ryan's half brother; I vote for Stef to be the father. You know Stef did sleep with a few women back in the day, maybe one of them had a kid, did not know who Stef was and gave the child up for adoption...
-
Did Granger get lost??? Damn, I am sure this is Calvert's fault somehow...
-
Congrats Mark and an extra big kiss to all those that help you produce this wonderful story for us... While I do favor the Bridgemont series, just a huge history fan, I do love the CAP series and have been with you from the first few chapters... You and your support staff are just the best... :krista: :Vic2:

Damn, I was so hoping it was going to be Ryan's asshole father... I was all set for Will figuring it out and reuniting Jeff and Ryan... What about Stef for the father??? He did sleep with a few women back in the day... Maybe one of them had the baby, did not know who Stef was, and gave the child up for adoption...

Hope everyone has been doing well, I have been really busy and although reading each chapter updated by Mark, haven't gotten into the forums. Really enjoyed the last chapter and hope the upcoming adventures are as much fun to read. After reading some of the post I do understand better why Granger is so undecided about what to do with the extra ship, who knew capturing a ship just lead to so much difficulty... I still think having an extra ship or two would be good when he gets to his meeting with Maidstone. Plus, if he could happen to capture a gold ship along the way, all the better... It is so easy to lose myself in Mark's writing; I often feel Granger and his crew and family are people that I really know. I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Hi everyone, hope everyone has been doing okay... I have just been really busy and while I have been reading everything that Mark has posted; I just haven't had time to get into the forums... Have to say that I really enjoyed the latest chapter of Paternity. I wonder if we aren't going to have one more reason to celebrate the title of the story; Jeff's parentage... This is the not the first chapter that there has been mention of how much Jeff smells like Ryan and how similar their various body scents are. This is something that can run in families. I have known brothers, fathers and sons, and cousins that share similar body smells. Have to wonder if Mark hasn't been dropping hints all along that maybe Jeff is Ryan's brother or half-brother. I could really see Ryan's father getting a girl pregnant before he got married and paying for an abortion but she keeps the money and gives the kid up for adoption. This might be a way of keeping Ryan and maybe even Alistair in a round about way in the storyline. Although tying Alistair in with JJ might make more sense... Anything that keeps Will tied to those guys in Malibu works for me though, I think both are really interesting. I have been trying to catch up on the post recently, still working through them all; but I have to say the one thing I want to suggest for the next story is another dual narration. I really think for the 9/11 storyline, you need JP's voice to be one of them that is heard from and if there is only one narrator then he is the only choice for me; but I sort of would like to see him paired with either Will, Matt, or Wade. I really think having two people from generations that are seperated not only by years but experience would lend a really poignant touch to what will be a very difficult storyline. What does everyone else think???
-
You know, I am sure this is not the first time that there has been a mention of how similar Jeff's body odor is Ryan... I wonder if Mark has been giving us a clue to one more source of the title of Paternity and we just haven't picked up on it... It would be another way of keeping Ryan and maybe even Alistair in a roundabout way in the mix. I have to think that Brad is sometimes smarter than we think; having Will take Maddie in to see Jeanine will let her associate a really positive moment with Will instead of so many of the recent negative ones. Not that Will isn't the obvious one to do so anyway; Darius and JJ have never really shown any connection to Maddie while Will seems to spend quite a bit of time on and off with her. This could be a very positive moment for everyone involved. Was a little suprised by JP's reaction, he isn't the one that usually jumps to a conclusion without looking at all the facts and getting all the information. I thought Will handled the situation really well, much better than he would have six months ago..
-
Hate to say it but the constant darkness of this storyline is losing me. I am usually good at finding sometihng to hold onto but can't see where anything that is happening is leading anywhere that I want to go... Enjoyed the first stories in this series tremendously but this one just isn't working for me... Will watch for the next one and try to pick it up there...

Well, you can just tell that the action is about to begin all over. I have a feeling that most of the whaling captains will get a new ship and can't wait to see Granger get the privateer. I do have to wonder if/when he meets back up with Calvert if they will be able to go up against the Spanish battleship... Even with two frigates that would be a tall order, not that I doubt Granger is capable of pulling it off.
