JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
I'm feeling festive this morning as the high temperature will only be ~90 degrees today. -

Fridays tend to make me cheery. Now if I could just find a decent salad bar. -

Every so often, a blog post hints that Kathleen Kennedy is considering retirement, and I'm overjoyed. Then we hear that she wants to go out with a win and I get depressed because in that case, we'll never get rid of the witch. Oh, for Christ sake Katie, put the damned Pander stone DOWN and go away! -

JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
I have noticed that tequila must contain mirth because people drinking margaritas appear especially mirthful. If they yak it up, they are most decidedly not mirthful. -

I was elated when Acolyte was summarily cancelled and the talentless idiots responsible for the abortion fired. -
gobbledygook - Word of the Day - Wed Aug 21, 2024
JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
Diplomats are known for speaking a unique brand of gobbledygook that sounds erudite, but cannot be construed as a commitment. -

In art, there is a technique called the dry brush. In its application, it's not the amount of paint used, it is the color and where you put it for the desired effect. It's litany equivalent works fairly well for short stories.

Dmitri Koslov, senior engineer on the night shift of the Kursk Regional Reactor Authority, shared a nip of vodka with the cute nurse in the dispensary before his shift started. February was cold in Russia. Koslov asked the day-shift leader, "Victor, is there anything we need to know?" Victor shook his head and said, "The Geology people from the Oblast(1) reported a series of small earthquakes near Belograd this afternoon. The strongest was 3.3." Dmitri shrugged, "They call wheneve

vexillology - Word of the Day - Sat Aug 17, 2024
JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
When I first saw this word I thought: Ahh... Vexology! The study of things that vex people, like noisy barking dogs and raccoon raiders would be useful and practical... wait, that ain't it. -
pulchritudinous - Word of the Day - Fri Aug 16, 2024
JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
The pulchritudinous of nature just doesn't have the right ring to it. It sounds like a horrible disease or condition. Don't make your reader reach for a dictionary too often. Just because you know a fifty cent word, you don't have to use it! -
sycophant - Word of the Day - Thu Aug 15, 2024
JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
Dug-out Doug McArthur was known for surrounding himself with sycophants who told him what he wanted to hear. That really bit him hard on the ass many times against the Japanese, but he didn't learn from the experience. It really bit him hardest in Korea when Red China ordered millions of "volunteers" into North Korea to bail out their sock-puppet Great Leader. Dug-out Doug wanted to nuke them and invade China, but thankfully, Truman wasn't a lunatic and fired the actual lunatic. Now there's one "Old Soldier" many veterans were delighted to see fade away. -
recondite - Word of the Day - Wed Aug 14, 2024

Years ago, the Federal Dept of Education pushed a theory called the Common Body of Knowledge (CBOK). My mom hated it and fought it for years because it's recondite knowledge that makes you special. -

Limerence is a fifty cent word for the whatever the hell it is that has gone wrong in the mind of a stalker. -
mumpsimus - Word of the Day - Sun Aug 11, 2023
JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
When you are born and raised in the South, sometimes it’s difficult to shake some of the mumpsimus of our culture. Honor codes, expected manners and beliefs we are raised with make us feel a bit like aliens in a culture that seems defined by no culture at all. -

nefarious - Word of the Day - Sat Aug 10, 2024
JamesSavik commented on Myr's blog entry in Writing World
I had a visitation by a nefarious raccoon who gorged himself on cat food and went to sleep. 🦝 The next morning, when I went out to the garage, the raccoon was shocked when I opened the door and tried to flee, but he had eaten so much, he got stuck tight in the crack under the garage door I leave for my outside cat. Poor guy was stuck fast there, and I had to open the garage door to let him escape. -

Fugacious - Word of the Day - Wed Aug 7, 2024

There are some Roman Emperors of noble character like Justinian or Marcus Aurealus. Then again, there was Nero and a few who ruled for a short time until the Praetorians decided he was too big an idiot to be emperor or took a bribe.
