  1. The one listed from my Shorts Collection is The Cedar Grove.

    Chapter 5

Oh, thank God. I'm not the only one.

    Chapter 4

I've struggled with disclaimers and finally came up with one I like and can cover a wide spectrum of naughtiness: BOYS BEING BOYS. No complaints since I started using it.
  4. You know I've bought into a story when I reply in haiku. ブリリアント Your protagonist must have read the Book of the Five Rings.

    Chapter 3

Warriors walk among us, their war, silent rages inside. Only those who must fight for it truly understand freedom

    Chapter 2

There's always a flaming asshole who won't leave you alone. I think it's like a friggin' law of nature. Maybe a corollary of Murphy's Law.
  7. I've been foreshadowing it from the very start. Much of it was chalked up to coincidence- how so many of their birthdays were clustered together, Tim's uncanny ability to read people, how he has been attracting people who needed him with his charisma, how he kept having glimpses of Thibault in his dreams, and his near invincibility when aroused in just cause. There were other answerers in this chapters that put Andrew, the conspiracy and some of Lakeview's weirdness into perspective. Bobby Bowers and his attack dog Magruder were the local big bads, and Tim has broken them. More of Tim's backstory and history with Jonah was revealed. Now, comes the hard part: writing a fully articulated Paladin in modern society. He's always been one, in was in his bloodlines. It took the ceremony on Acadia Ridge to unlock his true potential. I had been intrigued by some urban fantasies I'd read. This has been fun to do.

    White Knight

More will be revealed in the later chapters. There's a reason, They are being drawn to Tim.
  9. We all are, bro. Comicality was one of the founding fathers of gay online fiction. Com (and several others) raised the bar. He's an icon. As a fellow author, the quality and volume of his writings is spectacular. The Elvis of our art has left the building, and it suuuuucks.
  10. The Cedar Grove Mississippi April 1976 It was a beautiful day, and as soon as the 3:00 bell rang, I was ready to go. I put on my backpack and made a beeline for the bike racks. I was off before the buses began to roll out. Robbie's bike was in bike racks on the high school side of the school. Our spot was high on the second ridge, providing a nice field of view to prevent surprises, and with a cedar grove, plenty of bushy cover to hide in. The
  11. He would have LOVED that!
  12. I am heartbroken. You can learn a lot about someone reading their writings. Com's inner sweetness and light always came through loud and clear. When I first read, My Only Escape, I had to stop. It unlocked things inside me that I'd stuffed away for decades. I couldn't read because of the tears in my eyes, and I'm having the same problem now trying to write this. We've lost a brilliant author, but more importantly, one of the sweetest persons you could hope to meet, in person or online. His wit, charm and optimism were unmistakable in every single paragraph. I expect there will be a tribute anthology, but what could I write that would be worthy? I can hear him laughing and calling that sentiment silly. Just don't set the time for the anthology too soon. Getting this one right won't be just a lark. This one demands our A game.
  13. There was a player on one of the teams I played on who had a huge beak. He was a lineman, so he was in the trenches getting down and dirty. It was inevitable. After a rough game, he broke his nose. It was big to start with, and then it began to swell. Taking it in good humor, he said now I have an attack proboscis!
  14. NO! I want leather-bound hardcovers with etchings! If we're going to be delusional, might as well hold out for a really satisfying one! 🤣
  15. Most surviving local newspapers have been bought up by a national chain that's lame AF. I won't name them, but their strategy seems to be to destroy all the papers, make them worthless and piss off their paying customers. They ship in writers and editors that don't know jack about the city, and their political biases couldn't be more blatant. No, they've pretty much shat the bed.
  16. According to Nifty, paperboys get into all sorts of... ummm... shenanigans.
  17. An author need not be mawkish. There are plenty of routes to the heat strings. How he gets there is simply a matter of imagination and style.
  18. The best leaders mete out encouragement generously, but don't overdo it. They seem to have an instinct for knowing how to proportion it just right.
  19. You have to be careful cooking with a crockpot. Your timing and heat level makes the difference between magnificent and glop.
  20. Paperbacks, pulp, serial publications, comic books - lots of the people sneered at nonliterary fiction, but it sold by the truckload.
  21. Sometimes I mosey over to Reddit to remind me of just how good I've got it here.
  22. Coyote ugly means if you wake up with someone that ugly after a night of drinking too much, you'll gnaw your arm off to escape. Not that I would know about anything like that.
  23. In military parlance, an officer who came up from the enlisted ranks is often referred to as a “mustang Captain“ or a “mustang Colonel”. Such officers are often the best CO you can hope for. They aren’t contaminated by service academy indoctrination or puffed up egos, and won’t get you killed via stupidity.
  24. Cats. What can you do?
