Odyssey 6. Bridgemont

George Granger continues his adventures both naval and sexual in this book. This odyssey is an around the world trip with many new assignments and problems.  As George continues to accumulate wealth, friends, power and enemies, he participates in some of history's greatest events of the era.  He also gets to know some of the famous people of the era as he engages in spectacular battles on land and water. Mark Arbour's writing style is engaging and easy to read.  That he includes well researched historical facts cleverly in the story is a bonus.  I highly recommend this series and book.

This is the sixth story in the Bridgemont saga; and to this point in my opinion the best one so far. It truly has it all; the writing and plotting is just amazing; and Mark's continued ability to blend fiction with real history is just superb. 

This story has it all.  It has exciting battles, love and hate, great sex, and drama on both the high seas and in the emerging work of high finance.  

Anyone that has enjoyed any of the previous stories will just find more of whatever they loved here.

I started reading this story 13 years ago.  It was posted over the next two years and it was an adventure that truly reflected its title.  I've randomly delved into some of the chapters over the years, especially chapter 60 and the demise of Bacchante. George's personal growth and maturity was tested in this book and time after time he was confronted with impossible situations.  Mark has said this was his favorite of the Bridgemont series and it's also mine.  Even if you started later in the series, I recommend you read this one to get insight into George.

Around the world in 77 chapters.  Great story telling. An addictive read.  

Odyssey is one of the  longest, if not the longest, book of the Bridgemont series. But then it had to be cover the around the world travels of George Granger. There is a bit of everything in this book, but most notable parts are the Battle of the Nile, the actions of Valdivia, and much more that I can't mention without being a spoiler, but suffice to say it is a "sitting on the edge of your seat" stuff all throughout.

The way the author effortlessly weaves in the fiction and non-fiction is nothing short of brilliant. For fans of historical fiction, it doesn't (can't) get much better than Odyssey.
