In my 80 year journey, I've hardened myself emotionally. I have never been in love- I've simply had close friendships with benefits. My early years exposure to life has led me to this unfortunate position. Then I came across 'Brittle as a Bird' and at the end I cried. I cried for Joey and all the hate and abuse he'd encountered at such a young age; I cried for Allan his lover,  who died having succumbed to that awful disease. I cried for Gene who, like me, decided that living a lie was a safer course. But I did not cry for Joey's mum nor Allan's stepfather. They  deserve neither pity nor succor. I gather that the genus of the story was from real life and I must say 'Ronyx' that you've done a masterful job. I couldn't put the story down. I congratulate you and urge you to make the story into an eBook and have it published.  Well done!

This is, quite simply, awesome.  A great story, superbly told.

Of course it's anything but simple.  With so many highs and lows it's sometimes hard work as you follow the life of Joey, and of course Allen, but it's worth every second.  The story alone is a good enough reason to recommend this, and the writing of it is equally notable.  There are moments of joy and elation, but Ronyx doesn't generally let you off the hook to enjoy those for very long without the sometimes punishing counterpoints.  So if you want plain sailing 'everything just gets better and better', this definitely isn't it.  But if you think you can deal with something that is challenging, addictive, and thrilling, as well as being occasionally despairing and hopeless, then you most definitely are at the right place.

It has dragged me, emotionally, through all kinds of experiences, which has been exhilarating.  If I can ever improve my work to achieve even 50% o this, then I'll be an exceptionally happy (and lucky) guy.

By far one of the best stories I've read on GA! Loveable main characters you want to protect and embrace and never let go. An emotional journey you don't want to miss.

I have read this story multiple times, the first time being when it was first published on "The Mustard Jar" ten years ago. Ronyx is an extremely talented writer and I consider this novel, plus its sequel "A Bridge to Yesterday," his "magnum opus." 

I still don't know why Ronyx's stories aren't being professionally published, because his talent speaks for itself.

I'll be eternally grateful to the author for writing this masterpiece.

A great story of love and death. This story has some of the most heart wrenching moment I've read. It truly is an emotional rollercoaster ride.
