Ripper Christmas - 4. LAX

Los Angeles International Airport was hectic as usual when the flight from Sydney landed; Owen led the way to Customs and Immigration with Tilda at his side. “You have the combination for the storage closet, right?”

“Yeah… And you’re sure one of the ski outfits will fit me?” Tilda and Spencer would catch a flight to Denver before connecting to Vail. CJ and Owen had assured them there were plenty of ski bibs and jackets for them to choose from.

“Most of the pants are adjustable. The jackets may be a tad large for you, but they’ll work.”

Once the entry procedures were complete, the two couples stood in the middle of the concourse before heading in opposite directions. “Thanks again for coming and for bringing Liebe.” Spencer leaned in to give his niece a kiss. “You behave, you little devil.”

“You guys need to get going.” CJ held his daughter in one arm and hugged the newlyweds with the other. “Call us if you have any issues. And you have the dads’ numbers if you need something while we’re in the air.” The Australians would arrive at their destination before the Americans reached Washington.

“We will. You two remember to call Mum, okay?” Spencer hugged his brother again. “When will we see you again?”

“Not sure. CJ had to arrange for time off when he was hired and doesn’t have any real vacation time for a while. It also depends on where he gets posted next summer. Maybe we’ll get lucky and end up in Sydney, Melbourne, or Canberra.”

“Dream on. You know it’ll probably be somewhere in Latin America.” CJ turned his smile onto Spencer and Tilda. “But wherever we are, you can come visit.”

“Spence, we’ll video call Mum at least weekly. You need to keep us in the loop, though. In case she doesn’t want to talk about it, you need to tell us how she’s doing.”

“Definitely. I can’t wait until we have her back to normal. Love you guys!”

CJ and Owen stood next to each other and watched the other couple walk away. Owen held one of his daughter’s hands and waved it at her Australian relatives. “That’s your uncle and your new aunt, Liebe. I’m sure they’ll be working on giving you a new cousin whenever they’re not skiing this week.”

“More like they’ll be skiing when they’re not working on making a cousin for Liebe!” CJ chuckled at his own joke. “Let’s go home, Oz.”

Will one of those be the Atlantis story you said you were writing? Please, please, please.

LOL

Yes it is.I have the first in a trilogy of short stories ready, but I won't post until the second one is at least close to completion. I don't want a long lag period between stories. (Ha! I normally bitch when authors have long lag between chapters). Anyway, each story will probably be between 5k & 7.5k words and I hope to post all 3 in 2020.

Thanks for sticking with me all this time. I hope I've provided entertainment and a respite from the daily grind, and I look forward to more of the same in 2020. May your holidays be filled with joy.

An altogether too short (under 1k) for my taste, but of course I love the story and the characters.  Can't wait to see what you give us next.

Damn you're greedy!

I'll have you know I intended the story to be under 10k words; I exceeded that by over 10%. So you got a bonus without even realizing it. :)

Here's hoping your grandson brings you joy this holiday season. Thanks for the continued support, Dave.

It was great to visit with CJ, Owen and Liebe...I was worried about Pam there for a second, but I’m glad she’ll be getting help.

Merry Happy! I hope for more of those little shorts about the boys!!

Thanks, Def. I do have a short story in mind with Brett and Cesar at the center of it. Won't happen for a bit, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. I've been dying to showcase those tywo and a week in Palm Springs would be fun. (I'm sure I'll get crucified for the hot tub orgy. LOL)

:off:

Your kid's handsome as hell!

@BlueWindBoy

I recently questioned the length of a chapter I was working on and my editor repeated the advice he had given before and I must have forgotten. Paraphrasing... Let each chapter be as long or short as it needs.

Due to the serial nature of sharing my work on GA, and the restrictions on multiple, concurrent postings, I do make concessions. On several occasions (like yesterday) I end up combining scenes in one chapter. Where I publishing on paper or all at once, the frequency of short chapters would be more pronounced.

Are you forgetting CJ's fluent in English? There was no need for you to add the Spanish subtitles. :P
