The Mantis Equilibrium - Book Two - 18. Chapter 18 - New Target

The Biological Shifts next attack.

The dead of night was upon the land, and Teshon City was quiet.

“There it is,” S’Kay said, and she pointed.

Gawa squinted through the darkness. “That’s it?”

“You’ll see,” S’Kay replied.

The trio crept up to the side of a building, and they peered inside through the cloudy glass of an old window. Crates lined the walls and several large objects that were covered in tarps stood in the middle of the space.

“How did you find this place?” Eroli asked.

“I first found it when I was a kid, living in the Spritehood, before I changed.” S’Kay ruffled her feathers and continued. “I hadn’t been to it in years and forgot about it entirely until we started this, but I came here last night and checked it out. Not only is it still a functioning warehouse for the Messiahs, but there are weekly shipments that come through. I found a manifold and logbook.”

The three Biological Shifts leaned in close together.

“There was a bunch of old Oselian equipment,” S’Kay went on, “but nothing that seemed all that worthwhile, a crate of rusty helmets and other junk. There were sacks of coal and stacks of lumber. I don’t really care what else is in there,” she added, “I just want to ruin whatever operation they’ve got going. By destroying this building, we’ll inevitably upset something that the Messiahs are doing.”

S’Kay brought her hands to the wall in front of her.

“Each of you, go around to either side,” she instructed, “and let’s tear it to the ground.”

what will the reaction be to their new action?

S'Kay and the other two are going to destroy an old warehouse. Thy intend to make the messiahs mad since they use it in some way. Without any messiahs around, it will be safe to attack the warehouse.

But they do not know if dangerous items are stored within the warehouse . Danger and death could be released unwittingly. As a minimum, the destruction could make the messiahs more willing to attack shifts again.

More mayhem. I was expecting them to destroy the Tower, but at least she's not that reckless yet.

Without understanding what is in the warehouse, the trio have no idea of the damage they may be causing.  What if there are chemicals or other dangerous items stored in the warehouse?  This could not hurt just the Messiahs but also the shifts, bio-shifts, and humans as well.

This group is getting more and more reckless.  They either need to get a better grip on their actions or be stopped.

Can't disagree, one has to wonder now that the citizens have been setting up neighborhood and town watches, how long it will take for these independant actors to be brought under control and get to organizing...

Then again one has to wonder, how long before the monsterdom of the mutated to enter the soon to occur fray???

“Curse these monsters!” she raged. “Now they’ve attacked our sacred place!” The Principal Messiah stood upright as Vion approached. “Our fallen kin at this attack site,” she informed him, “only display two of the three types of murderous energies we’ve encountered. With any luck, our enemies are facing dissension in their ranks. Come inside, now,” she commanded, and without waiting, she stormed in through the broken doors.

Vion left his inquisitors in the street and followed her.

“Do you know what happens when a Messiah consumes another mantis gland?” the Principal Messiah asked.

“Another, milady?”

She furrowed her brow. “Yes, another,” she replied. The woman glared at Vion with an expression that dared him to interrupt her again. “You remember eating the mantis gland that turned you into a Messiah, correct?” Her question was rhetorical, and her tone was sarcastic. She continued without allowing him to reply.

“Far to the south, the mountains end in a vast flatland, but between the two lies a region of foothills that serve as the monsterdom of the mutated. Those twisted addicts,” she continued, as she began to climb the stairs, “are not part of this society.”

The Messiah's hell bent on death, destruction , and the cannibalization of the innocent need...must be eradicated if they are unable to change their ways.

And to repeat myself...for those who feel differently...re-read Ch1 of the first book...

Honestly, the demifae and many of the Mystics aren't much better.
