Doing It Again - NaPoWriMo April 2024 - 2. Chapter 2

Poems for April 7 to 13.

<><><><>

7:

My eyes are heavy, I cannot sleep
I force myself to rise, to write
to keep a promise made by me
and what I learn is weighty—
I am worthy of my own word
and love myself enough now
to keep it

8 Prompt: Eclipse (what else)

the moon slowly crawls
covering a patient sun
brief totality

Will it be the end of days
will tomorrow come?
Or will a door open
casting evil on the world?

Do science’s promises
hold the truth like water?
Or is the halo God’s
doorway to rapture?

9 Prompt: Write a senryu. Like Haiku, it is 5-7-5. They do not reference nature and are often darkly humourous or cynical.

human invention
dedicated self-torture
exercise is good

10 Prompt: Write about anxiety

He is new—his first visit
eyes show his distress
I call his name softly and smile
the doctor will see you now
there’s nothing to fear

11 Prompt: Write about a critter

You’re solitary, alone in your web
Spent carcasses lay below
Do you think about the day
or your hunger as you wait?

12 Prompt: Write a poem and then arrange in alphabetical order (with as few changes as possible). I added a single word.

Original

We are bound, we humans
In our daily realities, we’re tied
work, family and rest
Are we ever truly free?

Art restores flagging imagination
fueling our winged thoughts
tired souls are refreshed
questing spirits wander

Rearranged

Are we ever truly free?
Art restores flagging imagination
fueling our winged thoughts
tired souls are refreshed
In our daily realities, we’re tied
questing spirits wander
We are bound, we humans, to
work, family and rest

13:

I try to pray for our world
knowing there’s no God
no one to extend a hand
but a host of angels
would be welcome

We’ve come so far quickly
building things because we can
I fear this will be the end of us
as we cannot find enough love
to halt our own destruction

Whenever you post your poetry I always have to read each one a couple of times. Most times I figure out what the theme is pretty quickly. Occasionally, it leaves me wondering. But that's what you've taught me about poetry.. it's subjective. So... here we go:

I am worthy of my own word
and love myself enough now
to keep it

❤️🩷❤️🩷

Eclipse... nicely done

Senryu- I never heard of this term. Loved it. Human inventions are not always a good thing.

Anxiety- true, there is nothing to fear, but try telling that to your brain when it won't stop spinning. Luckily, there is help. It will pass.

Critter... do you have a Charlotte hanging out in a corner web somewhere?

Original/Rearranged... my favorite for the sole reason of having a reaction of... how the hell did he do that? Amazing.

13... sad, but true.

As always, my friend, you made me think... and for a Sunday morning that in itself is quite the accomplishment. Keep up the good work. 🩷

Not Charlotte, but Harry lives in the bathroom at the moment. Before we had Robert, he got rather big (I have no idea what they are eating in there), and I had to ask Michael to either kill him or set him free. Michael set him free in the garden. I suppose we'll have to do that with Harry before long.

The rearranged one, i just followed their instructions. I simply wrote a poem and then alphabetized it and added a single word to the rearranged version.

Thanks for your comments on these two and the others.

There is much to admire in this set. The first poem gave me a heart-rush; it was exactly what I needed to hear. Prompt 12 fascinated me; both arrangements were fine poems. That particular challenge, along with the Senryu, may be ones I might try too one day. Finally, I cannot help but agree that in these days, a host of angels would be welcome.

Yes, try the Senryu. They are fun, and the alphabetical one you can use with any poem you've already written. I'd written the one for the 12th, but then I saw that prompt, I just did what they said. I did add the word 'to,' but that was the only change.

Maybe if we keep mentioning them, the angels will come. Thanks very much Parker!

All well done.  I liked the Senryu, gave me a chuckle.  The first makes me happy for you. I'm glad you feel you're worthy because you always have been.   Eleven also made me grin as well.  It's such an odd place for a spider. I'll take this one outside as well.

Thank you, Michael.  i'm glad you enjoyed this bunch and for rescuing spiders.  ❤️

I'm not looking to a magical God who can just step in and kiss the boo-boo and make it better.  As for angels, I do believe that at our core is a reflection of that Being some call God.  If that is true, we can be those angels if we get active and work towards a better society through our actions, words and being true to ourselves.

Didn't God give humanity free will? Why should he make it better? We are reaping what we've sown.  I like your idea about being the angels we need.  Thanks for your excellent and thoughtful comments.
