Doing It Again - NaPoWriMo April 2024 - 4. Chapter 4

April 21st to 27th. The final three poems up to April 30 will be posted on that date.

21: Write about something made only on Earth

Do donuts dare to be made elsewhere?
Can you find them in the great out there?
Do Alphacenturians meet for brunch
or rather, perhaps, have them at lunch?
As far as we know, other worlders aren’t aware
of these sugar-glazed rings we love to prepare.

22: Write about a Headache

Pounding in my head
Silent screams, a dull throbbing
A headache's cruel gift

23: Write about a haunting

In shadows deep, where moonlight fades,
A ghostly presence wanders
Through halls of memory, gliding
In whispered echoes, abiding

A spectre of the past, it lingers
In languid, silent anguish
Its hands offer chilling touches
To haunting memories, it clutches.

In midnight's cloak, it finds its voice
A ghostly, mournful wail
It fills the air with sorrow's song
A haunting melody, so strong.

In the dawn, the spectre flees
light dispels the ghostly body
But in the shadows, it awaits
To haunt again at twilight's gates.

24: Purple

Purple blooms in my mind
Rich, it is a regal hue
It dances as the sun retires
lost among the solar fires

25: Clown

Smile painted so bright,
the spotlight hides waiting tears
clown dances alone.

26: Write about a deceased friend

You were a friend, true and steady
Leaving memories of laughter and delight
But now we’re left lonely and sad
You were taken too soon one dark night

Your voice echoes in our thoughts
We gather to weep and to mourn
How do we say goodbye?
Forever from us, you’ve been torn

Life goes on and must be lived
We remember you in our dreams
Moving on, you’re not far behind
alive forever in memory’s streams

27 Tanka

In dreams we danced
Hearts entwined whispering love
Now shadows linger
Echoes of timeless passion
Faded now like fallen leaves

Brilliant.

Especially #21 😁

#22 we can all relate

#23 absolutely chilling.

#24 no sunset is complete without the color purple.

#25 clowns.. hard to write about.  Some are fine. Others are creepy.

#26 beautiful words.

#27 more beautiful words.

Well done, tim. Thank you!

Thank you, kbois. i'm happy you found some beautiful.  i know there have been evil clowns, it's a good way to hide your true self i guess.  Thanks for reading!

This is a fantastic set. #21 had me grinning from ear to ear, and #23 made a chill run down my spine. #24 made me pause to think about how I perceive color. Taken together, #26 and 27 felt so powerful, I felt swept up in mourning  and longing. These are excellent.

You're very kind, Parker!  i'm glad the month is over. I'd said for ages I wouldn't do this again, but look.. i must be insane.  Thanks for your support over the month!
