Doing It Again - NaPoWriMo April 2024 - 3. April 14 to 20

14 Prompt: Write about an antique clock
Always you’ve sat upon the mantle
solid and weighty, you tick and tock
keeping time
chiming the quarters, then the hours
and only Father is the one to wind
15 Prompt: Describe your feelings after meditation
Opening closed eyes
a sigh escapes my lips
returning to now
still air fills my lungs
my breath is precious
my body and mind focus
a final deep breath in
I sit up in reality
16 Prompt: Write about being stuck in an elevator
Smoothly rising until the shudder and jolt
then my conveyance is no longer
Frantically mash the buttons
there is only silence in the little square box
I know I’m dangling here
I know I can’t fall…can I?
Pounding only hurts my hand
I use the phone, breathing evenly,
I sit awaiting rescue
17 Prompt: Write about your father
He was a man I never pleased
on his deathbed, that never eased
A man with a violent touch
I wonder why I care so much
My heart says don’t be cruel
why continue to play the fool?
He is dead and buried now
through cluttered feelings, I still plow
After years of asking why
is it time to say goodbye?
18 Prompt: Write about a walk in a park
The sun is warm on my face today
it promises the reality of spring
buds come on softening tree limbs
and grasses are brilliant green
dandelions dressed in yellow, nod
we wander by loosening winter
while from below, tendrils rise up
19 Prompt: Death
And then we die
After we’ve lived
We hope a full life
In the blink of an eye
20: Add the title to the end
My companion of many days
it follows like an obedient shadow
whispers truths that are lies in my ear
peace and silence are naught but wish
rare twins I desire and seek but
things I’ll never have or hear
fear
