Doing It Again - NaPoWriMo April 2024 - 5. Chapter 5

The last three days of April. I have to admit that I wanted to write a couple of sonnets for this, but I struggle with them. There are two, but I worked on them for more than a day—a lot more. In any case, I hope you enjoy them.

28: Write about silence

A poem without rhyme
a free-flowing stream
A reflection of life
both harsh and serene
In the quiet
we find our hidden voice
A symphony of silence
is the ultimate choice.

29: Sonnet of Solitude

In solitude, a poet writes his verse
With no one to share or to understand
His words are as seeds in a sterile soil
They seek connection in desolate land.

The silent hall holds no light or echo
No similar soul there mirrors his thought,
But yet, he hears poetry’s timeless call
Though all alone, inspiration is sought.

In solitary grace, he writes alone
Symphonies of words, a silent choir
Each line is a beacon, his quiet call
Evidence of his poetic fire.

Though he is alone, his words find their way,
A testament to art's enduring sway.

30: Write a Monostich about Knitting

In yarn's gentle twist, each stitch is a story memories travel.

Bonus: Write a sonnet for April

In April's gentle bloom, poets find their muse
Nature wakes from winter's quiet repose
They pen verses that in the heart infuse
With rhymes that dance like petals in the rose

Tis spring with sun and parting of the snow
Words of celebration and joy are rife
Drawing from skies above and earth below
April poets write about Spring and of life

Their every word painting a vibrant scene
Of blossoms bright and skies of azure hue
In April's poetry, the world is seen
With eyes that find the beautiful and true

So let us, in this month of verse, rejoice
In poetry, we find our truest voice.

I really, really liked your #28 on Silence.  Silence isn't just the absence of sound, it has a feel  to it that I can't describe.  However, you've described it in words that make me feel silence flowing, moving through and around me. It's a gem.  So too are your sonnets.  I can't decide which I like better, #29 or the Bonus. The third stanza of #29 appeals to me: there's a visual image of the poet there that sprang directly to mind. The second stanza of the Bonus, as well as its final couplet, stand out, too.  I confess to being scared to try a Monostich, but your wonderful example made it look easy. Thank you for making the NaPoWriMo journey this year.  You have given me lots of food for thought and inspiration, on top of the great pleasure of reading your poetry.

Thank you, Parker. I'd never heard of the Monostich before and was surprised how challenging it was. I'm sure you'll give it a whirl! I'm also happy that you liked the sonnets. They are a struggle for me, but I'm kind of pleased with them both. I feel the same way. Thank you for your support. Doing this isn't easy, but I'm lucky I have more time now, so I think, in the end, the poetry was better.

Silence can certainly mean centering oneself in order to listen rather than "talk".  It is most difficult to do in a world that wants to fill every void with noise.  Beautiful writing!  I loved every one of your offerings!

You're so right. i crave silence. You are right that noise is everywhere and all the time.  i get up early, there are birds at that time, but to wish them to be quiet would be simply foolish. Thank you, @pvtguy for reading and for your comments.
