What Else Is There?

What Else-Front Page.jpg

Being the oldest and growing up in a large family can be hard, especially when you are gay and the family is extremely homophobic. You are constantly being compared to your deceased father. A man whose stature and deeds are always increasing, as time goes by, and are held up as your goals. Anytime you reach those goals, your mother moves the goalpost further away.

You never seem to measure up. You are always being told that you are worthless and will never amount to anything since you cannot measure up to your father. It never mattered that you were a straight "A" student and that you were an athlete.

What a wonderful and powerful story of an extraordinary young man coming from terrible abuse but taken in by a loving uncle in another state.  He meets challenges but his maturity, integrity, and abilities win him friends and a new family with his uncle.  From the first chapter, you will be hooked into reading each wonderful chapter!

After the death of his father a young man finds his relationship with his mother, through no fault of his own, is destroyed, as impossible standards to measure up just keep on coming. Not being allowed the slightest of mistakes, continuing to live at home is no longer possible.

Our protagonist finds refuge with his uncle and thinks a fresh start is just what he needs. Little does he know the turn of events that rise up to challenge him and his core beliefs.

Take the time to read the first chapter, like many others, you will find it nearly impossible to put down!!

This amazing, coming of age story brings the journey of Pete, gay boy, disowned by his mother, finding acceptance and support from his paternal uncle George. Finding himself in new surroundings, new school and friends, Pete has to choose between staying true to himself and his principles or fit in homophobic society. Instead of choosing an easy road, Pete is not changing himself, he is changing the world! So, Pete is who he is, but with his arrival, little town of Elko becomes a much better place!

I truly recommend this novel and look forward to the sequel.

This is an atypical gay story, in that Pete, the main character, gives as good as he gets from the world, and often even better! He goes through his tale surrounded by a lot of well-drawn characters, some good ones, some nasty ones, and many sympathetic ones. Much like the real world, you will notice. All wrapped up in a story that's interesting, addictive, and extremely entertaining.

I love a story that draws me in, and an ending that inspires. Both qualities are here, ready and waiting. Highly recommended!

Take care with this story. If you got abuse or violence in your history, you might find it triggering. Once you get past that, this hero's journey is compelling and feels entirely too real for those of us who have been there.

Response from the author:

Hmm... Should I have placed a warning about this, somewhere? Perhaps the synopsis?

This is a well-written and compelling read. It tells of the complexities of Pete's life in his early years up to, and through, his first years in high school and is full of action. Pete's story is being brought to us in a series of stories and this is the first instalment. Be warned that when you get immersed in this story you will be left begging for the next instalment that the author, @Al Norris is currently working on and the current readership is looking forward to. Al Norris and this series are well worth following.
