Light & Dragonflies: Nature Poems/Love Poems - 11. In the lap of evening

.

Aus den schwarzen Falten deiner Augen zucken Dolche

zurück in seine Hallen schlägt mein Herz

tastet scheu

Säule um Säule

nach dem Gewölbe deines Angesichts

Dein Atem trägt den Arm voll dunkler Wälder

und sein blaues Meergefieder schlägt der Tag

in der Sonne Goldgelächterflitter

alle Hände voller Silberblumen

springen Bächlein durch der Adern

Sturmgehölz

und der Stirne blumenwilde Wiese

senkt die windgeschwächten Schmetterflügel

in des Abends weltenweiten Schoß

  ---------------------------------

Daggers flash out from the black creases of your brilliant eyes

while my heart beats back into its chamber

shyly groping

from stone pier to pier

in search of the high vault of your features

Your breath carries armfuls of the deep forest

and its blue sea-plumage that hammers daylight

into sun-tinsel and golden laughter

to fill every hand with silver blossoms

and stream little streams through the vein-creased

woodlands

above plains of flower-wild meadows

where wind wearied butterflies lower wings

in the lap of evening’s worldwide grasp
