Light & Dragonflies: Nature Poems/Love Poems - 12. On the tall reeds of day

.

Blut fließt aus der Adern Mittagsenge

hält den Atem an ganz losen Leinen

mäht die Sonne hin in goldnen Garben

sammelt sommersummend

Bund um Bund

Dörfchen hängt am hohen Schilf des Tages

hebt und senkt die dächerbunten Flügel

und des Himmels überlichte Wasser

sprudeln Blumenzwitscher

Vogelschein

 ---------------------------------

Blood flows through the arteries of midday

which on the loose lines of canvas completely

holds its breath as sun scythes the golden sheaves

gathering summer humming

bunch by bunch

The village dangles on the tall reeds of day

lifting and folding its roof-colored wings

while the over-lit waters of the sky

gurgle with flower-laughter

and bird-glints

I really liked the analogy of blood flowing through midday.  Also the sun scything through the golden leaves, and more

Thank you for this translation, @AC Benus.

Thank you, ReaderPaul. "Blut" is always such an interesting word to translate, for it not only means blood, but also life force, life's blood, the pulse of life, vitality, etc. Here I just hoped "Blood" was enough to carry all the meanings Runge may have intended
