rima fragmenta, Fragments of a Rift: Fifty Sonnets for Kevin - 23. the Chakras within

.

Sonnet No. 45

Seven are the holy numbers which spin

Across our spine and emotions imbue

Kaleidoscopic points of every hue

When we activate the Chakras within.

To do so, we merely need imagine

Our higher and lower selves rendezvous

On an internal plane where bonds subdue

The fears weakening loving discipline.

For when you reach my inner midst, there’s peace –

As if rainbow shards of color alight

And display the balance universal

Obtained the moment of Creation’s height

When gyroscopic wheels became sacral –

You spin me root to crown without release.

Sonnet No. 46

We can never say goodbye properly;

What starts off as a handshake in the hall,

Turns hugs, kisses – bags dropped entirely –

Then held hands and movements back to the brawl.

At these times, there’s never past or present;

Satiation or starvation of souls;

Only connection endlessly content

To don and slough mortal/immortal roles.

Downstairs we seek out and find anywhere

Serving convenient for our urgent need:

Staircase; rug; doggie bed; library chair;

Each has been blessed when our love has been freed.

Hunger’s neither a blessing nor a curse

But a way to unseal the universe.

Chapter Comments

The seeming contrast of ethereal, spiritual, ineffable joy in connection in number 45 and the real, concrete, in-the-moment observations in number 46 is only skin deep. Looking more closely, I feel that these two connect the spirit and the present moment. I have but to consider images of hunger, skin and spine to connect them. These are beautiful.
