2019 - Spring - Into the Stars Entry

Himmelszelt (Canopy of Heaven) - 1. Stargazer

Stargazer

In August when Laurentius’ tears rained down

And meteors flared white before they died

I dreamed to meet him in the fields near town.

My eyes fixed on the vast and ruthless sky:

I made a wish.

Together we defeat the void of space,

The ebony cloth, pierced by ancient light

Enfolds us to become our sheltered place,

where we can pledge the bonding oath by night.

Did you make your wish?

For a beloved friend whom I dearly miss.

Thank you, Val and R.

Your poem reminded me on last August, and all the Sternschnuppen, I watched sharing it with someone dear. Thanks for bringing this memory back.

I picture two people looking at the same stars, each hoping the other makes the same wish.

I fell in love with the rhythm and the way each line declaimed itself to me. This is exquisitely beautiful .

I always try to watch them in August, and like you with someone dear. Thank you for your comment, Lyssa. Watching the nightly sky connects people.

Yes, even when they aren't at the same place or time. Thank you, Val.

This is a very evocative and emotional poem. Poets not afraid to share of themselves are the real-deal in my book :) Thanks for this

"The ebony cloth, pierced by ancient light

This is beautiful. Such yearning for loving companionship when it may not be achieved, is also immensely sad.

You point out the very heart of the poem --and mine.

I still balk at calling myself a poet. Thank you, AC, for your kind words.
