   (5 reviews)

In a kingdom cracking under rebellion, one knight and two young squires ride with a single purpose: they fight for the crown. Kaylen leads them through frost‑bitten marches and treacherous courts, while Tomas and Ronan learn the cost of courage long before earning their spurs. As traitors rise and loyalties splinter, the three must stand firm together or watch the realm fall.

This is in the time of war, and there is bloodshed, death and love.

A truly well written story about one of the most pivotal times in English history.  The time following the writing and signing of the Magna Carta had immense ramifications for all of history to this point.

The characters were well done, and you immediately felt a kinship with them, they drew you in immediately.  The author was able to convey the feelings and turmoil they were going through during this time.

The descriptive nature of the writing was wonderful.  You could feel the cold and muck, the heat and sweat, and all manners of natural things as well as the way the natural order effected the characters.

Any fan of history will especially enjoy this; but honestly any fan of good writing and storytelling will as well.

Response from the author:

Thank you so much for this thoughtful and generous review. It means a great deal to hear that the story’s setting—those turbulent days after the sealing of the Magna Carta—resonated with you. That moment in history shaped so much of what followed, and I’m glad the weight of it came through in the narrative.

I’m especially grateful for your words about the characters. Their struggles, loyalties, and small triumphs are the heart of the tale, and knowing they drew you in so quickly is incredibly rewarding. Bringing the physical world to life—the cold, the mud, the heat, the sweat, all the rough edges of medieval life—was important to me, so your noticing those details truly means a lot.

Whether someone comes for the history or simply for a good story, my hope is always that they find something worth holding onto. Thank you again for reading, for recommending it so warmly, and for taking the time to share your thoughts.

A thoroughly engaging tale ripped from the annals of a very turbulent history of England at the signing of one of the greatest documents ever written, the Magna Carta.

I strongly recommend this story to one and all, you won’t be disappointed!

Response from the author:

Thank you so much for this wonderful review. I’m truly honored that the story resonated with you in that way. Drawing from such a turbulent and pivotal moment in England’s history—especially the era surrounding Magna Carta—was both a challenge and a joy, so hearing that it came through as engaging and worthwhile means more than I can say.

Your recommendation is incredibly generous, and I’m grateful you took the time to share it. I’m thrilled you enjoyed the tale, and I hope the chapters still to come will reward your trust just as much.

Thank you again for reading and for your support.

This story reflects 2 different worlds, one large and complex, and another smaller, and more simple, until they are forced to collide. The large world mindset hasn't changed that much in the last thousand years. The power grabs of the elite and rich, regardless of considerations of the ruled subjects. Sadly we still see this same type of war trauma being played out, in our world of today. The knight Kaylen has started to train his young squires to become effective in the defense of his lord's holdings, among the marshes and fens of the surrounding countryside. This becomes a very personal relationship for reasons that you will learn. Their world starts out with intense training, understanding, and the wisdom of his life experiences. Strong and unbreakable bonds are formed as the result of his wise lessons. This is a well written, and an impressive tale, that I really enjoyed reading, and also learned some unfamiliar history in the process! I am happy to join other readers in giving it a 5 star rating.

Response from the author:

Your thoughtful words honor me more than you know. You have looked past the surface of the tale and seen the two worlds that shape it—one vast, burdened by ambition and the ceaseless grasping of the powerful, and the other smaller, quieter, and far more human until fate forces them to clash. You are right that the great world has changed little across the centuries; the wounds of war and the indifference of the elite still echo in our own age.

Kaylen’s charge over his young squires is meant to reflect that contrast. In the marshes and fens, far from the halls where lords barter power, he teaches them the lessons carved into him by hardship, loyalty, and loss. Their bond grows not from duty alone, but from the shared weight of what lies ahead—and from truths they must face together as their world darkens.

I am grateful that the history woven through the story offered you something new, and even more grateful that the journey earned your five‑star praise. Readers like you make the long labor of writing worthwhile.

This is the story of Kaylen, a knight and his two squires Ronan and Thomas.

But there training leads to much more as the old king dies and a younger king takes over the throne.

But enter Prince Louis of France, who has the support of many Lords as the king is unpopular.

We then find Kaylen, Thomas and Ronan fighting off enemies galore, whilst pledging allegiance.

Read on to discover more in this awesome story.

Response from the author:

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and share your thoughts — I truly appreciate it.

You captured the heart of the story wonderfully. What begins as simple training within a Templar keep grows into a journey of rising responsibility, shifting loyalties, and the heavy demands of a kingdom in turmoil. With an unpopular king gone, a young Henry III stepping into power, and Prince Louis holding London with the support of many lords, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Kaylen, Ronan, and Thomas face enemies on every side, yet remain steadfast in their pledge. Guided by William Marshal, they take on missions that shape the future of England itself. Watching them grow — as fighters, as leaders, and as loyal servants of the crown — is a huge part of what makes their story so compelling.

Thank you again for reading and for leaving such a thoughtful review. It means a lot.

What begins as a tale of a knight training his new squires in his templar keep grows to them facing a series of greater responsibilities and rank and difficult battles. An unpopular king dies and his son, a new young king , aided by a respected lord assumes the crown of a kingdom  with two claimants. Prince Louis of France was welcomed as a better king against the then unpopular King John and holds London and has the support of many lords.

Kaylen and his two squires will fight off many enemies at home and pledge their allegiance to the new Henry III. They listen to William Marshall, essentially the kings right hand man , and undertake important tasks to cement the king's control and over important territory. They carry out their duties effectively and honorably and earn the respect of the king and Marshall.

Find out how the grow and become skilled fighters and ably serve the English crown

Response from the author:

What begins as a simple tale of a knight training his new squires in his Templar keep quickly grows into a story of rising responsibility, shifting loyalties, and hard‑won battles. When an unpopular king dies, his young son takes the throne — guided by a respected lord — and inherits a kingdom divided between two claimants. Prince Louis of France, welcomed by many as a better alternative to King John, holds London and enjoys the support of powerful lords.

Kaylen and his two squires, Ronan and Thomas, soon find themselves fighting enemies on every front while pledging their loyalty to the new King Henry III. Under the guidance of William Marshal, the king’s most trusted advisor, they undertake crucial missions to secure the crown’s authority and protect key territories. Through courage, discipline, and honor, they earn the respect of both the king and Marshal.

Follow their journey as they grow into skilled fighters and loyal servants of the English crown.
