At the End of the Day - 2. Another Passage

This poem is dedicated to the passing of my good friend, Ryan Bartlett.

What fleeting life and fleeting time,

Has rendered me without a friend?

For the clock has struck its final chime,

And now the pyre burns.

I wonder where the time has gone,

For my friend journeys with it still,

To the end of all and then beyond,

This world no longer his concern.

I cannot help but reminisce,

Through words; the craft we both pursued,

Of times which we will not have hence,

And memories for which I yearn.

Be well, my friend, and journey forth,

This is not the ending of your tale.

Your words will tarry with their worth,

And bring about your oft return.

Thanks, Val. I appreciate you. I mourn differently than most, I think, but I still mourn. Writing is extremely cathartic for me, and a poem seemed like the best way to represent that.

That was really beautiful Samuel.
When you mentioned you had written a poem, it didn't occur to me that I would have the privilege of reading it.
Thank you for sharing your words. They say so much....
I'm sure Mr. Bartlett would be pleased.

Thank you.

I believe in making grief public. I know this is not a common viewpoint, but I have my reasons for it. I think that the only way we can overcome grief is by putting it out there. My evidence for this is that bottling it up has only ever caused me harm.

Thanks for reading.
