Stepping Through the Mirror

I am usually not a big fan of short stories, but for some very special authors I make an exception here and there. 
 

This was one of those, and it turned out to be a very good decision. We get a glimpse of Blake’s every day life, which isn’t bad in any way, he just has to live in some very big shadows. Right after that glimpse, we have the chance to follow him on a very special evening. At least a very special evening for him. That sadly doesn’t mean his family sees it the same way, for them, there are more important things they have to attend to. But maybe Blake will finally get what he deserves: someone who sees him. 
 

Thank you Gary for this very sweet story. Your ability to make characters come alive, to turn emotions and the inner workings of your protagonists into words and to make the reader feel is amazing, as always. 

In my experience, the youngest in the family gets a great deal of attention and is usually pampered, but the male protagonist, Blake, in this story is nearly invisible to his parents.  Why is that, you ask?  It's because his older siblings, a male and a female, tend to excel in everything they do.  He, on the other hand, doesn't draw the attention or stand out as his siblings do.  So, how is he to overcome those odds? 

Fortunately, he does have one skill that eventually gains him some recognition, and along the way he finds that special someone whom he may spend the rest of his life with.  Don't pass up this lovely and romantic story that has its share of frustrating moments along the way.  Trust me, you'll be worse off if you don't take the time to read this wonderful and heartwarming short story.

Stepping through the Mirror is a perfect read to end the day. It tells the story of Blake Sorenson, who has to find his own way in the shadow of two highly successful and charming siblings. It is a heart-warming story that made me smile for Blake and the journey ahead, which I suspect will be a happy one. 

A great read. 

Having not one but two super star siblings is rough on their younger brother.  Blake feels like he is hidden in their shadows though the three siblings love each other very much.  Finding recognition for his own talent and someone to focus their attention on him would be like "Stepping Through the Mirror" into a bright and beautiful new world.  You'll have to read this sparkling gem in order to find out what happens.  Happy Reading!

The joy of being the odd one out, even to your family. 

I really felt for Blake, his mum comes across as an airhead, and his father as only interested in 'manly' sports. I can't blame Blake for his reaction to Ryan at first. 

I'm glad when Blake finally gets his head out of his...um...bottom...and looks at what is right in front of him.

A great Short.  

I loved very much reading this, Gary. I appreciate the delicate way you had moving things between Blake and Ryan. This is a story about the discovery of feelings, how to manage them and how to grow with them. It may be in our memory or not but every one of us has had a start. Some difficult and some...
