On his way to Lausanne, Switzerland, for a reunion with old university friends, Robert Farrell is hoping, perhaps foolishly, to run into his ex. However, during the journey, when the coach stops in a small village in the northeast of France, Robert feels compelled to disembark and remain behind. Finding lodgings in a remote farmhouse, he encounters Alfie, the ghost of a young English soldier from the Great War, who repeatedly appears in his room at night. Neither of them understands why until Robert begins to do some research. And he soon discovers that their destinies are linked, and only they can help to reconcile each other’s futures.

I had a thoroughly enjoyable experience reading this story. I found myself hooked right from the beginning, and while I won't share details, stop reading this review and click on Ch. 1!!!!

An odd little story that touches the heart and makes you consider how random occurrences can bring you to just the right place at the right time.

In this season we sometimes need a reminder that in helping others, we actually are helping ourselves in ways we never realize.

Beautifully written with characters that draw you in from the word go.  A lyrical edge to a few of the chapters, almost like listening to an old song that you remember but can't remember all the words to.

Hope everyone that gives this one a chance enjoys it as much as I did.

Response from the author:

Thank you so much. I’m glad this short tale brought you some pleasure and comfort. Have a happy holiday season this December 2024 and all the best for the New Year.

This wonderful story from @lomax61 brings us romance, supernatural and war all in the same story.

To find out how these are woven together to give us a heartwarming and uplifting story, you'll need to read on to discover.

Response from the author:

I’m glad this short story touched home. A bit of a rush to get this finished before Christmas 2024 but I’m delighted by the reactions of GA readers.

You don't really expect a bright story connected to the horrors and loss of World Was I. However, Brian pulls it off here. This is an uplifting tale which bridges the supernatural and romance. An enjoyable read.

Response from the author:

Lovely review @drpaladin, thank you much for your kind words.

Yet another wonderful, magical story from lomax61. Chance encounters, mysterious disruptions, and interesting, kind, and (some) gruff personalities come together in a lovely, heartwarming tale. The main character is sufficiently likable that a sequel would not be unwelcome.
Read and enjoy!

Response from the author:

Hello @vonfoto,

Sorry for the delay in responding. Thank you so much for the lovely review.

Like a soft and warm blanket, this story accompanies you to discover the stories of two human beings, alone in different ways and in different times, but full of humanity. Let yourself be warmed by these lines. The story of the two protagonists, born in winter, is now waiting for a spring... Do you understand me lomax61?

Response from the author:

Hello @GoodReader,

Thank you for that lovely review. As with many of my stories, this one came to me one night and I couldn’t shake the idea, of two lost souls not only existing in the past but one in the present. And I’m always a sucker for a happy ending. Thank you for reading.

As a fomer member of the US military, I can understand the serious pain of conflict and have read about the misery and despair cause by WWI trench warfare. Richard felt Alfie's pain and the loss of his good male friend. It is comforting to learn Richard honored Alfie and spoke to a distant relative and brought his life back to reality. Let us hope his new friend,  Freddie, will be a happy holiday partner. This is a comforting story.

Response from the author:

Thank you so much. I agree with your assessment wholeheartedly. We all face dark times and it’s good to have something to cling to. I hope this story sheds a little hope and good cheer.
