I think that if Caroline can protect travers she will. I also think that she is able to front for Granger.

As for Granger's lonliness . . . He still has three new midshipmen to taste right? And why has Winkler never shared his bed. He obviously loves the man, he has been his confidant all these years. Granger has rescued him did he not? And we know Winkler also has a taste for the tube steak.

I think some fill in opportunities are there. Perhaps if Winky comes up with a bottle of good brandy they can have a night of debauchery with a forgetful morning after?

Call it a mercy pork from Winkler. It'll add to the silent respect each has for the other. Or perhaps Winkler could bring him a sacrificial lamb willing to be slaughtered for the cause?

And he has never had Winkler to dinner with him. Never had an extensive sensitive moment alone with him to express his gratitude or to allow Winky to express his.

wow... i know my review contributions tend to seem trite and short, but I do really enjoy your work. I'm not much of a history buff, but this gives me a perspective I never would have considered, but really should have been obvious.

Another great chapter Mark.

I am uneasy with the way the Don's were content to let Granger and company just come up and fight. Seems to me there is probably more ships out there to spring the trap after our heroes have taken the bait.

Maybe the comodore will get to see the value of seamanship at Granger's hand yet.

Just discovered the Bridgemont series a few weeks ago, and have been reading eagerly to catch up. As a newcomer, I'm happy to see that you're still updating regularly, so I can still keep reading -- if maybe not as rapidly as I have been. <gr>

This is a fine story, and an excellent example of historical fiction.

Another brilliant book. I liked the new aspect of Granger having to solve problems at home, the drama with Davina and Freddie was unexpected, but especially Caroline's affair and the way Granger handled that was impressive. And you did a very good job on showing us how upset Granger was from feeling abandonded and how much Chartley helped him - until he also left him so suddenly, but for good reasons.

The fact that I'm reading this series for the second time has actually increased my enjoyment, because some of the events that I did not think much about the first time, now takes on a new sognificance. Oh and I just loved the way Granger looked out for his crew no wonder they are so loyal and protective of him.

The greatness in this story is that George starts on a high and unlike the other books in the tale he ends on a relative low, no great promotion, just resolution to the crap he was splattered with upon his return home. This is truly an excellent series and anyone who hasn't read it is big time missing out! Thanks Mark Arbour and team.
