The Black Dog Blues

   (6 reviews)
Sub-genres: Drama, Psychological

This is poetry written during my recent depressive cycle. I'm learning to accept depression as part of myself rather than as something separate from me.

For those who may not know, 'black dog' is a metaphor for depression or melancholy.

This is definitely a unique take in this anthology's "In Too Deep" theme.  In these poems, it's about coming face to face with what you hold inside. Would you treat your inner darkness as a friend to walk beside?

Response from the author:

Thanks BendtedWreathDepression isn't easy for the sufferer or their family and friends. Fighting it didn't help me; this isn't a war. Learning to accept it, be kind, and understand how I feel has helped me.

Thank you for your thoughtful review of these poems.

Two beautiful poems that show the journey of the black dog (depression).

You have to accept depression as a part of who you are, rather than the enemy.

Response from the author:

Thanks, chris. I know you've shared your husband's journey. I appreciate your kind words.

Two wonderful poems about the life journey those who suffer from depression follow. tim fought it for many years with drugs and therapy. Since choosing to see depression as part of who he is, rather than the enemy within, he's found life easier. Acceptance that he travels life's road with depression, has made it somewhat easier.

These two poems are full of hope and acceptance.

Response from the author:

Thank you, Michael. It has been better.

As always, tim has shown a fantastic take on the beast called depression and made it so relatable. His imagery is nothing short of phenomenal.

Poetry has never been one of my go-to's, but I will read every word of whatever tim posts because he's a master of words.

Thanks for sharing xoxo

Response from the author:

Thank you for sharing.  These poems are thoughtful and thought provoking.  I see my own experience, but I also see someone else’s.  It is helpful to hear you  express your own journey.  I found the first resonating more with me personally, but I appreciated them both immensely.

Response from the author:

Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts about these poems. I'm happy you found them meaningful.  :)
