It's very rare that I can confidently recommend a story that checks all the boxes, and I had zero hesitation doing it for this, the first in the Carter Saga series. This one has so many memorable characters, it's challenging to choose a favorite. I've picked mine, so read and find yours!

Carter's Army is a fun read with enjoyable characters. At a superficial level, it's a standard high school gay romance, but it's much better than that. The characters are entertaining and there are a lot of fun moments as the two main characters dance around each other. There are some dark times, too, but not enough to drag the reader away from a light-hearted tone.

A few of the chapters are, to me, too short, but since the story is complete, that's a minor quibble. The main complaint would be a few editorial issues with punctuation and typos, but for me, at least, they can be easily overlooked.
