Feelings I Don't Know How to Say Otherwise. - 5. Miss

So there’s a boy I miss.

He used to brighten up my day by listening to my common ramblings. He would narrate his day where the mundane details captivated my attention. Many a times, I imagined him with his arms around me as the cold night air charged against me. Too many nights, I fell asleep to the fantasy of his body pressed against mine. Too many hours I spent in the day, drifting off, to the idea of his lips against mine. When he spoke, his voice would resonate with my heartstrings, a tremor beneath my skin. Even the silences that filled the gaps between our words charged the air with a muted understanding, a connection, some would say.

And now, the happenings I would like to share remind me only of his absence. The silences stretch out the seconds into minutes, minutes into hours, ringing in my ears. There remains no end in sight to the cold nights I lay alone with the ice inside me burning. Blankness fills the unoccupied minutes in my day because fear stands guard at the gates to the fields of imagination where I used to play.

And still there is no anger, just a tired longing, for the boy I miss.
