Love Letters To Nobody - 1. Chapter 1
A flash of gold and I found myself staring into a pair of cerulean pools.
Deflection.
Exhalation. A pause. I lifted my eyes. Your cheeks were tinted rose from the cutting wind outside, your head seemingly breaking the surface of the pool of knits resting on your slight frame.
A slight clearing of throat, and heat rushed to my cheeks. I looked away, catching the slight crinkle of your eyes. Amusement, I thought, I could, not be sure.
A side-step and two strides found me in the familiar comfort of a corner. An armchair, with dust collecting around its legs, stood its ground. It welcomed me in an embrace. I looked into the quiet world outside, the only life hidden deep beneath its blanket. The din of the combatting machines, metal against porcelain and accented words quieted as I slipped into the cold, silent world of my thoughts.
The steam from my cup of bitter sobriety prepped a blank canvas on the window. I traced my fingers over the minute droplets, leading one to the other, until they found a clear line.
"Hi," images of thick warm honey accompanied the equally smooth, rich voice.
The line broke.
"Here," a slight quiver twitched under the layers of confidence.
A ruffle of leaves, I thought.
Your deft fingers sought to rearrange the tangle of yarn shielding your neck and seeing as it would do no good, you pushed through the bubble into a cold world.
As the steam continued to rise, fogging over my glasses, I reached up.
A crackle like fall under boots.
Unfurling my fingers, sitting in the palm of my hand, 10 digits revealed themselves in a scrawl across a slip of white.
I went back to my clear line.
