quokka - Stories

This is a collection of very short stories, that I had written over thirty years ago, when I first started to write, and they are recollections of real events that took place on the farm where I grew up in Western Australia.

Preston aka Quokka

The continuing story of Cooper Hudson, and his developing relationship with his former high school classmate Andrew Banjo Patterson, and their new adventures on the other side of the country.

Dalton is a very bright young man, who gets to live overseas because of his parent's work and learn additional languages. After seven years of living in Singapore, Dalton and his parents and baby brother returned home to Australia, where they settled down to a reasonably normal life, that was until they made a trip to BC Canada, to visit Dalton's uncle Oliver and older Cousin Tyler, and life takes a dramatic turn...

Twenty-year-old Cooper Hudson is the oldest of four boys, who spent their first few years living on the family sheep station - Southern Hills, that is located on the south of the Eyre Highway, with the turn-off located 82 kilometres East of the nearest town of Norseman. Cooper is a third-year university student in Perth, where the family is based with their mother working part-time at the nearby college and their father often works away as he is a AFP senior officer. As the family enjoys another holiday down at the station, a big surprise is revealed, which changes Cooper's future totally.

University student Brett Hamilton completes high school two years earlier than usual and enters university to study Aeronautical Engineering, which he changes to Aerospace Engineering in his second year. Back home for Christmas Holidays, the family goes for a camping holiday, where things change dramatically for Brett.

Meeting for the first time in Boarding school, Oscar Q Kingston settles down to life away from his country home town, until an incident with one of his friends, while at home on a boarders weekend had him ending up in a hospital and afterwards changing schools and living with his grandparents on the outer north-east suburbs, where he finds new friends.

Months later he bumps into two of his former friends from his old school and after a bumpy start, they form a close friendship that lasts for many years to come, where they go their own separate ways after school ends, and reunite later for a common cause.

Simba and family and all of his friends travel to Tanzania to spend Christmas at the family home at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro, and from there, a new adventure begins.

I have had a very unusual life, which started from the moment I was born and named Sebastian Mitchell Amos Grantly in Douglas, on the Isle of Man, UK. Things dramatically changed when just before Christmas and at nearly six years old, my mother and I flew to Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, where my name officially became Mitchell Amos Grant, at first, I had no idea why.

A continuing story of Struan Kenrick, as he continues his life in the Army, making the occasional trip home to visit his brothers, and taking another train trip with his youngest brother Sawney, this time on the "Ghan", heading north to Darwin, where once again trouble follows them...
