If the Earth all of the sudden stopped spinning, we'd all slam east into the wall at 1000mph

No, what would happen would be much worse than that. Most, or all, of humanity would die. If it happened suddenly, or even over a few years, an ocean would form that would swallow up Europe, Asia, and North America. Latitudes toward the equator would become unlivable, because there would be little oxygen. A new continent would form between North America and Asia. Day and night would start out lasting several days and once the planet stopped completely spinning, a day would be a year. Much of the remaining land areas would become dry as air currents (wind) would become nonexistent. It's not a good scenario at all.

I don't let stuff like that worry me. If it happens, it happens. Nothing we can do about it anyway.
