Concepts of "The End"
Today we have a papal resignation, unprecedented in recent history for Catholicism.
Now North Korea has also tested a nuclear weapon according to the readings of seismic activity.
However, this is not 2012, when stuff like this would have had people selling their possessions and making peace with God. Were the Mayans wrong with their math? Probably not, but people still want to believe in an end to their existence.
Look, I do believe that the world and mankind will end one day; hopefully "engulfed in fire, but not in darkness" to borrow a phrase from Babylon 5. It is inevitable that our sun will explode, it is inevitable that mankind as a species will die out, and it is inevitable that we must all end eventually.
I think what people seek in life is meaning, we're all following Socrates examinations on a life of meaning in one degree or another. Sometimes, "the end" is meaning in on itself for people, which I agree with on a certain level. However, you do not need to consume yourself with merely one "end".
Now let me allude to writing a story and writing endings to draw a parallel, some writers conclude a story needs an ending, so they can move on. That's an acceptable concept on a personal level, since we wish to cease areality that we have explored fully in ourselves. However, the end for the reader is not the same as the writer's "the end" for the story. Readers still dream of adventures that the characters may still have, imagine themselves in the story, and even create their own "endings".
In my belief, an end is not merely a "final" curtain call, it is the bridge to other thoughts and continuation beyond what you already have.
Just a thought about reality and endings
