As a German, I do appreciate a German sausage, even though I don't eat meat

It is kind of a paste though, not really like the sausage-shaped sausage.

Personally, I started out life hating anything with liver in it.  However, I love a liverwurst sandwich when I have the munchies. 

What is this? The week of yucky words? I only liked isle. 

I remember being given a liverwusrt sandwich when I was a kid.  but it wasn't a sausage.  It was a pinkish paste my grandmother had spread on bread, topped with mustard and a slice of swiss cheese, and I didn't think it was bad at all.   

The casing that were used for sausages were originally the small intestines of animals, but in recent decades artificial casing are used.

This is still exactly what you can find in all German supermarkets in several variations. It is an acquired taste. 

Side note: as someone who still knows the meat taste of it and you has since also eaten the vegetarian version, the taste is indistinguishable. Science!
