Well, I'm a 4 or a 4W5 whatever the hell that means!

I wonder if this propensity for people to feel they need to pay to get thoughts or advice, is indicative of a culture of either a lack of local support or a case of we're told we are ill so therefore we are. That is ill in a figurative sense.

I tend to think back, possibly with rose coloured glasses, that in times of yore when people didn't travel so much and it was the norm for most inhabitants of an area to live and die in the same place, whether we have now lost part of our social fabric/support network. I'm coming here from a British sense of thought, so I'm thinking of areas where families knew each other, fought and laughed with each other, mothers had some of the stress taken from them as gran was always available to take over etc.

Just a thought.

I took the test, and also got type 5, but I didn't think the description was all that terrible. I agree with Coming Undone. It's just a tool, not something set in stone that you have to let define you. I don't look at it as a list of 'flaws', but explanations of different ways people cope with life. It's possible to be a healthy, happy person of any type, just as it's possible to let those same coping traits pull you into a destructive pattern.

Don't let it make you feel like you're doomed to failed relationships because you're not good with emotion. I'm not either, but I've been with the same person for 19 years. The issue does come up that he'd like me to be more expressive, but it's hardly an insurmountable obstacle.

Ha ha, typical Type 5 reaction :D

Seriously, generalized "tests" or "analyses" like this, whether they're ostensibly "scientific" or veer off into realms of mumbo-jumbo, like palm reading and astrology, usually have one thing in common: the results are sufficiently broad that it's easy to see at least something of ourselves no matter what they come up with.

Still, I think the 4w5 I got was pretty accurate once I read and compared it to the other 8 types. But then, I think I'd probably have come up with that just from the descriptions, without taking the test itself. Maybe the greatest value of the test comes just from confronting the questions and forcing yourself to look at yourself as honestly as possible.

I don't think we should try to force ourselves into fitting into any of these 9 (or any other) categories, or to allow them force us to fit into them.

Dom, you didn't mention your recent puniness. I trust that means you are feeling better. Hope so.

I took the shorter of the two tests (the other was fourteen pages long which turned me off). I think the results are questionable; they really didn't describe me. A type 3 Achiever? I'm about as laid back as they come.

At best, I must agree with nobody:

This reminds me of horoscopes; a grain of "truth" obscures a lot of inapplicable generalities. IQ tests provide worthwhile information and diagnostic tests to uncover physical diseases should be taken seriously. Most of these self-evaluations are designed to drum up business for the sponsor. I noticed the website accepts donations (PayPal preferred). Reminds me of business consultants who come into a company, ask the employees what they would do, and give management a big bill for recommendations that management could have had for free if they only listened to employees. What type is a laid back cynic?

Did anyone check out the website's disclaimer?

Don't take it seriously. The tests are just playthings.

For one thing, people's personalities do change over time. There are consistencies, but real differences in how they are from one age to another. Also, there are a bunch of these personality classification systems, and some of them look very accurate if what you're looking at is how well a particular person fits into the description you give them. But there's a question they never ask: is this meaningful? You can classify people in all sorts of ways. You can classify them by the kind of shoes they're wearing. Is that meaningful? Maybe. Maybe it is this day, and not the next day. Maybe it is if they are in one place and not another.

All you've learned is that if you look at the world through the enneagram lens, you can find a category you fit into well enough. Some people will find the discussions of personality connected with these tests to be interesting, or maybe even inspiring. Others won't.

I prefer to look at people without such classifications. Especially when writing. I like to figure out a person's personality from scratch, to see what the internal consistencies are, to see how their behavior arises from their nature and their conditions, and not depend on someone else's structure for viewing them.

Aw, Kurt, you should take nothing the idiot who posted this quiz, and freaked out about it (and has a 6 wing) says seriously. ;)

For a personality test that asks so many questions, this one sure isn't very accurate. I think it's kind of fun to take these things to see how F*^%ed up I'm getting. I haven't taken one in a long time though, so it was interesting to run across one that you took, so I decided to find out why you didn't care for it. I have to agree, I think the wording on the results was a little negative, for every number, (some definitely more than others). To me, the negativity was subtle, but what kind of bumbed me out was that even with a thorough questionnaire they still didn't get "me" right. The test captured a lot of characteristics that I tend to have, but it really missed the mark. Maybe one of the reasons you may have been upset by the personality test was the fact that they tried to some you up with a few words and fell short? Well, my results were a that I'm a Type 1 and my wing is 9.

1w9, bah....... I've taken better tests that really captured my craziness in one go :P .

Yikes! I'm a one with nine wings

Guess I have a few extra wings to share with others in case your in need of them. Wait, that was what the description of a one was, always trying to "reform" others as well as myself. Pretty accurate all in all. It was kinda fun to see a description of myself, which really are pretty generic traits. I'm sure if I read a six or three, I could find things in common as well. Kind of like calling the psychic hotline

Still, a great way to waste ten minutes.

Well I'm a 6 apparently. The loyalist suspicious person. Kinda paradoxical don't you think? Too much worry, lacking self-confidence, fearing all the time. Just like you said, the anxious type  Apparently one of the shining thing of being a 6 is that you can be confrontational to something you find threatening which I am.... :ranger:
