Benji Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Never heard this one before (maybe I should stick my head out of the closet more often). But I caught part of a conversation in which Barbata Walters stated "That a new survey found that 50% of all gays are left-handed" Huh!! (I guess I'll stop using this analogy when telling people being gay is genetics like being left-handed.) So I asked a couple of friends and got 50%. So what do you think?
celloandy Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Per this article in New York Magazine, the statistic is actually that gays are 50% more likely to be left-handed than straights. If memory serves, 10% of people are lefties, so I guess 15%-ish of gays should be lefties. Maybe Barbara misspoke. Andrew
AFriendlyFace Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Maybe Barbara misspoke. Or perhaps she was just expressing her View
Bob D. Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 There was a girl in my research methods class that did her project on this. She did an independent survey on handedness and sexual preference. What she found was: (gay includes lesbian in it's descriptive) More gays are left-handed than right-handed More bi's are left-handed or ambidextrious than right-handed and more bi/gays ring fingers are longer than their pointer-finger... Genetics... there seems to be a pattern... I don't remember the actual stats, and I don't have a way to get them, but I remember her results. Bob
