Our local paper doesn't carry the Wiz, but I haven't seen a newspaper for over two years anyway. I remember when the Wiz first appeared in the Seattle Times back in the 60's and enjoyed reading it until the characters starting saying, "The King is a Fink!" I remember asking my father what a fink was and being told to stop reading that comic strip. Of course, being a teenager I took that as a recommendation.

I never really understood why my father was so against the word "fink," but he always ranked that word right up there with the other "f" word, which remains one of the most despicable words in America.

Fink seems to have found a new life in the computer world, to quote the Fink home page, fink is a way to "bring the full world of Unix Open Source software to Darwin and Mac OS X." Having spent a few years trying to figure out Unix amongst a bunch on engineers who grew up on Unix and having started out my computer experience in the wonderful world of Mac, I can see why someone would want to do this. If you have a horrible social life, you have to have some interest to keep you going.

"The King is a fink" still pops up from time to time.

Sorry, but you do not have permission to use this feature.

Strangely, I get that message even when I try to look at something I posted in the past. I'm definitely logged in (or I wouldn't be able to post this message).

Maybe some day I'll explore my profile here to see if some setting changed.
