Luke and Noah

I don't watch soaps, but this hot couple seem to steam up daytime American TV - As The World Turns: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07SwPe_5n28. I think the writers may have read some of the stories on GA for ideas. 0:)

I know that this two minute clip is pretty tame for readers in Australia, U.K. and Europe, but as the saying goes: The U.S. "has come a long way, baby".

Luke and Noah are so hot, but they have only kissed twice, and there is yet to be a "love-making" scene between the two. They are taking the sexuality out of their relationship. I think they need to show more. Perhaps, the writers should watch some QAF for inspiration. B)

Ha, that was funny! Those boys just don't seem to have very good luck... haha.

No, not at all. Someone always seems to interrupt their moments, including both kisses. I wonder if someone will interrupt them in bed soon. Volume II should be shaping up quite well by now. :P

Strongly agreed. I'd never even heard of them prior to this thread, but it does seem like the network is irritatingly censoring their relationship. One of the main things I liked about QAF is that it didn't mince the sexual aspect at all. By comparison it looks like this show, and certainly Will&Grace are constrained by their (necessary at this point) censorship. While I understand that and am definitely pleased that these relationships and ways of life are being portrayed at all on mainstream television, I have to say that considering that I'm very much used to watching shows like QAF, and gay movies (that aren't porn :P ), it seems pretty ridiculous and frustrating to shy away from these things.

Good if this also seems ridiculous on UK and Australian networks! Let us hope that one day it seems absurd in the U.S. as well! In the mean time I suppose it is somewhat revolutionary  Oh well, small steps as they say.

Take care all,

Kevin

The show is a daytime soap opera. As such, they have to be careful on sexual matters. They may have taken the sex out of the relatiionship, but they appear to have maintained a strong gay relationship through an extended period of the show. That is a huge positive to me.

Even in Australia, the sexual side of gay relationships is rarely covered in much detail. It does happen -- one Australian TV drama (The Secret Life of Us) had a character realise he's gay after a sexual encounter. It was handled sensitively and carefully, but they didn't hide from it.

Over ten years ago, the UK show EastEnders did the same with Tony Hills and Simon Raymond (there used to be a video clip of them being caught kissing by Tiffany, Simon's sister and who was at that time Tony's girlfriend....). I also remember the time Tony picked up a guy at a gay bar, but couldn't go through with going back to the guy's place (this was before he started going out with Simon).

The Australian medical drama/soap, All Saints had a gay character at one point (also Tony, by some strange coincidence), who had fun flirting with one of the male nurses (who was very uncomfortable with it). But it was that male nurse who was the one who tried to rescue Tony after Tony dropped into a life of drugs and parties (this was after he was diagnosed with Hep C as a result of a needle-stick injury caused by a psycho patient).

They were significant story lines in each of these shows, and the writers didn't shy away from tough issues. Sex wasn't shown, naturally, but there was no doubt that there were sex happening in the first two stories, and the last one showed a good straight/gay relationship (in the end).

I wasn't saying that the scenes should be as explicit as QAF. But they could be in bed kissing and caressing passionately just like the straight couples on the show. B)

Veering away from Luke and Noah, I must insert that last year's Big Brother Australia winner, Jamie, was a big hit with me! I'm assume he's not gay but the stud had no problem wearing only his skin. Yum! Here was a fun blog entry that commented on (pant, pant) Jamie:

Jamie is finally the winner of Big Brother Australia. After 100 days of some of the most controversial Australian television that included more nudity than ever, sexual assault allegations and comments made by the Australian Prime Minister for Big Brother to be banned. Dubbed the 'Jamie's c**k show', Jamie has pleasured us (and himself) over the past twelve weeks with the sight of his very own, very big, brother. He will go down in Big Brother history as someone well worth a plane ticket to Oz.

Even on America's cable shows, male frontal nudity is almost a no-no. I applaud the less-restrictive attitude in Oz. It also doesn't hurt that Australia has a terrific selection of faaaaaaaaaantastic-looking men.

There...I said my piece. :P

That's what I meant. I simply disapprove of the double standard.

It's quite safe to say that we all disapprove of the double standard. In fact, some of the primetime shows actually do show a bit more than ATWT. Brothers and Sisters is a good example.

Oh geez, that's called being just plain outta luck. Can't they simply rent a room :P at least no one would walk in. Tho, I'm guessing that even there the fire alarm could start and there, stop again,, :P But that's daytime soap opera, you have to make sure to make the storyline last for more than a couple of episodes. At least, there's a gay couple and they're not portrayed as scums.

and that blond guy is cute :P

It's not porn, Sacha. They show some mild making out and passionate kissing. That's all. That's not allowed on network television. And yes, Van Hansis (Luke) is definitely a hottie.

LOL :P I never said that they'd need to show the graphic of what should happen in that room, lol. they easily can let us know that things has happened. But like it has been said, I believe that there's a double standard on how much you can show on tv between a man and a woman and what you can show between 2 men

Yeah, but then no one would bother watching (except us). People want stories to have conflict, crisis, and resolution. That's call the "arc of the story" and without these three elements, stories (online, books, movies, TV) won't sell. Even documentaries have these three elements. In this soap the crises are the kissing-and-being-caught-or-almost-caught. We can only hope that one of the resolutions will be Luke and Noah getting together. Remember, a resolution doesn't have to be happy. In this case, that would be too bad. :(

There has been no confirmation on the show that the two have even made love yet. That is a conflict in definite need of resoloution. :P

LOL Tiger you say the writers need to watch some QAF for inspiration. When mom didnt pay the cable bill and we lived in the apartment. The only shows we could get with rabbit ears were QAF and Dora The Explorer. & Me and my mom and my sister would watch QAF everytime i see those 3 letters i laugh so hard about that. My bedroom was the livingroom so yeah everyone would watch that show. On my aunts satellite we used to get some channel called Gaytv or something like that i think it was OUT. And it would play QAF the american version and then it would play this Uk Manchester version. I met a guy from england and i would always say "Wanna go the Manchester? If i come and visit you" I developed a huge crush on the 1 guy from highschool who had that hott uniform in the uk version until he started fooling around with the married guy then goes to his wife to check out her new baby. I was like WHOA BUDDY!! & lost so much respect for both of them. Sadly i dont know what happened after that show wise because we lost that channel.

I have not seen the UK version. I've heard some wonderful things about it. As I recall, there was a similar storyline in the US version. Brian Kenney had a client who just so happened to be a down-low. Anyway, the client wanted some "favors" from Brian, but Brian decided that the prospective client should leave town to be with his recently injured daughter. Brian actually placed a phone call to the people at the hotel, and he made the arrangements for the closet case to leave town.

Interesting little fact, as I was getting back from work, riding in the metro, it was written on the board that, in the soap "As The World Turn", when Luke and Noah finally kissed each other, it was the first time ever on a daytime show that there's a kiss between two men shown.
