  1. I think I watched the same news special. That would be my attitude now- if I found out that I carried the gene I would wait until I have the children that I want so that I could feed them and then I'd have the procedure. I'd have a reconstruction afterwards- they look pretty real. I think you need to assess your risk for all procedures. Even some diagnostic procedures have risks (x-rays, colonoscopies) so if you're not in a high risk group of the population for the disease then maybe getting tested isn't the best idea IMHO.
  2. But you can be a very well-intentioned, non-dick person but have no redeemable knowledge or skills or insight. If men and women split up a few skills that they have to know then they can specialise more instead of vaguely knowing it all. Much more practical for society.
  3. I agree with all of jamessavik's and will add another: - Learn how to play and enjoy a variety of board games, not just computer and video games
  4. Possibly because we do often know things that you don't (whether it's nature or nurture) and so can more easily see the effects of you not having this knowledge/skills. A chef can perhaps identify that a novice cook keeps failing because he doesn't have knowledge of the smoke points of different oils but the novice cook doesn't know what's going wrong. Equally men should be able to identify some of the things that women should know. For example, men keep telling me that I should learn how to check my tire pressure- I didn't even know that people did this.
  5. I have two great passions- Evidence-based practice and the pursuit of building a family. My passionettes would include reading fiction, watching tv series, cooking, crafting and my giant puppy.
  6. I think maybe we hit the nostalgia stage earlier on or maybe when those older than us became nostalgic they seem to us older than in their 20s even though they might not have been. I do miss Clarissa Explains It All.... And I like that little exert.
  7. I hear that the iPhone has an ebook app. I haven't personally experienced it because I'm too clumsy to own an iPhone but it sounds convenient enough to look into.
  8. I freak out getting out of my car at night and walking away from it. Sometimes i sit in it while it's parked for a while before I work up the courage.
  9. Well explained Just to add a little piece of interesting info to this and correct just a teensy bit; the reason why it is hypothesized that cells can only replicate a limited number of times is because every time a cell replicates the telomeres get shorter. Telomeres are the little bits of repetitive DNA at the end of chromosomes that 'protect' the useful DNA in between. Cells become both 'less' and 'less healthy' as a result. Dolly, the famous cloned sheep didn't live very long- possibly because the cells she was cloned from already had shortened telomeres. My question: How do prions reproduce? Could never get my head around that one...[EDIT: Now understood]
  10. OMG that's gotta just smoosh the people inside! I was looking into getting a smart car but the visibility isn't great. Maybe they didn't see the massive trucks...
  11. I wasn't taking offense; I was merely curious because the person I responded to used the phrasing " What bothers me actually is" before talking about the existence of feminine gay males. Meanwhile, heaps of articles come up if you do internet searches and science journal searches. All different theories of course but possibly all valid contributors.
  12. Get all of the Dexter and Nip/Tuck seasons. Awesome shows.
  13. *cough* tv episodes online *cough*
  14. Grenades have foliage?
  15. Why does the existence of feminine gay males bother you? Why is it a bad thing if there are feminine or stylish males in the LGBT community? Take it in stride. Better style than any number of other things.
  16. We both referenced that site? That is spooky! It is a good site though. I am still yet to read your story so i don't even know what opinion you're going to put forth so mine was just a general response to the circumcision thingy being brought up in a forum (and I'll take any opportunity to rant about anything that I'm strongly opinionated about ) And your story has that storyline within it? Weeeirrdd... Maybe they did it just to create an ironic situation. I'm ADDICTED to facebook! Farmville anyone? It's so embarrassing
  17. Pineapples destroy zombies?
  18. I'm the kind of person that occasionally sends rant mails. Though no personal attacks- so if your reader did that then that's not cool. I'm tempted to do a bit of a rant here myself. Note that I haven't read your story (will have a look after ). But i'll try to minimize it by posting this link that can be browsed at one's own pace: http://www.mothersagainstcirc.org/ Though I can't resist a bit of a rant. (I move into a slightly rant that isn't necessarily just addressing your response James, but yours just prompted my tangent. I'm sure you won't take it personally though ) It shouldn't just be about aesthetics though. Even if there was a strong preference aesthetically one way or another, why would you force that on a baby? Nobody would give a newborn a cosmetic surgery so I think the aesthetic-debate should be void. Meanwhile, there is actually a real answer emerging and that is supported by the evidence and common sense that is contraindicative to the 'evidence' that people who are pro-circumcision present. For example, it is often put forth that circumcision reduces the chance of penile cancer but incidences of penile cancer are actually outnumbered by fatalities arising from circumcision complications. As for the 'it's cleaner' argument: are guys really that incapable that they can't pull back their foreskin to clean themselves? Seems a little insulting. And anyone that thinks that it's not painful for a baby to be circumcised- why in the hell not? Babies with Jewish parents are given a lick of alcohol for anesthetic and if you've ever been to a Bris you'd know that those babies scream bloody murder. Other babies aren't given any anesthetic at all because it's dangerous for babies to be under anesthetic and they experience the full pain. Some are given anesthetic and that is a danger that you do not want to unnecessarily subject your child to. Not a nice procedure to subject a baby to. Not for the faint of heart: http://www.mothersagainstcirc.org/plastibell.htm Personally, I think it should be illegal like female circumcision is in a lot of western countries. *exhale* (no personal attacks intended)
  19. Maybe she has a giant vagina that consumes him so that all he can do is wiggle around.
  20. I want general safety, a loving partner, kiddies and enough finances to support a comfortable life, including good food, occasional holidays, excellent healthcare and education for my future children. I want everyone to be healthy. And to be honest, friends come second to all of that. If I could have lots of good friends but never a good partner or the other way around I'd choose the partner because I really want children and I really want an incredibly stable environment to nurture those children in. I'm not really a social butterfly- as long as science is my friend I wouldn't be that bothered by their absence. Having said all of that, I could probably be happy without a couple of those things but I wouldn't be completely happy. Furthermore, to make my happiness ultimate I would live healthily with my future family forever and with eternal beauty
  21. Watch Dexter? Awesome show. I can't think of any significant killings outside his own race that weren't motivated by being found out... I kind get what you're saying but I think for some people it's not even 'race' but the physical features that race produces. For example, I don't like flat-bridged noses (even on caucasians!!) so that rules out a lot of members of a lot of other races (i.e. Asian, African American etc.) I don't like freckles or thin lips on guys so that rules out a few very white races (ie. Scottish, Irish etc.) Generally this leads to an attraction to caucasian/mixed guys. I don't think 'race' is even a factor here (physically at least; obviously personality/cultural similarities may sway me more towards caucasian guys). EDIT: Though it wasn't until the end of high school that I saw anyone of a different race so that might be a contributor to my selection of features. I didn't even know what "mulatto" meant
  22. I'll send you an issue of playgirl
  23. Ooo I have a holiday house near there. Might go up next year. Hopefully I don't encounter one
  24. Happy birthday!!
  25. Haha thanks!!
