Hoskins Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 I'm not a writer, but I play one in a game. Anyway I was visiting a friend today and he showed me this website. Dan Simmons has written a number of books, such as Drood, the Hyperion series, and a number of others. His website has some fascinating things on it. Like the currently-at-12-parts "Writing Well" area, where he discusses in wall-of-text form how to write. He's got a section where his agent discusses in great detail what the publishing process is like. He's got a forum where you can interact with Dan and other fans/fellow readers. Anyway, I think its a fascinating site.
Procyon Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 That's really interesting, thanks for the links! I've read one book by Simmons but that was in the 80s, haha... I did really like it though, at the time.
Former Member Posted July 8, 2010 Posted July 8, 2010 Dan Simmons is one of my favorite authors. I read and have read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy over the years, and honestly can say about him (imo anyway) he has the ability to create storylines, worlds and characters that equal some of the old masters like Tolkien and Herbert. His Hyperion series was outstanding and visionary, great sci-fi but lyrical as well. I look forward to viewing his site. I'm not a writer, but I play one in a game. Hylas Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I love his Hyperion series. He is among my list of favorite science fiction 'epic' writers (which includes Iain M. Banks, Arthur C. Clarke, William Gibson, Roger Zelazny, Ursula K. LeGuin, Greg Bear, Frederick Pohl, Larry Niven.... ok, that list is embarrassing enough LOL )
