W_L Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 http://www.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_t3#/video/showbiz/2012/05/02/drew-bts-alana-evans-porn-star-mom.cnn Maybe I am slipping, but I found this to be a good news story and something that people of all walks of life could come across. The woman sounds like a decent person, who has faced her own life issues and pushed herself beyond them. She made her choice in life to raise her son alone and did so selling her body just to put food on the table and pay the bills. Hell, to me this is praise worthy, but others are less kind. People who work as porn stars and prostitutes are no different than anyone else. It is true their profession is socially unacceptable and has been that way for thousands of years, but it does not make them any less human. Some might be shunned for their work by certain religions, political groups, and moral leaders, but I feel it is not in anyone's place to pass judgment on them. This isn't a topic about prostitution or pornography in general, but just a reflection that some people who work these areas are not monsters or demons. They raise functional families, help out their communities, and perform their civic duties. 1
VictoryPanda Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 I think I've seen her on the news before. I pass no judgements. How you work is no better or worse than anyone else. It's about how you live your life what counts. While I don't mind my job, I dislike it. So who am I to tell someone else they shouldn't be doing what they're okay with doing.
Y_B Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 A friend of mine's dad dealt drugs to put food on the table and he ended up being in prison for years of my friend's childhood. Another friend of mine did playboy to try to make a career and she ended up getting rejected later on things she really wanted to do simply for her background. People can do whatever they want, I'm not gonna say right vs wrong, but there are consequences to the things you do. If you ask me, there are always ways to make a living that won't leave a piece of toilet paper sticking out your pants, so to speak. Anyways, I like porn stars but they're gonna be the ones who'll have to live their lives.
Mark92 Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Interesting topic W_L. I would actually applaud her. What I got from that was: She pays her taxes and doesn't get any welfare. Bravo to you lady, there are millions of people out of work, and living off the state. Whichever state that might be. Her son is well adjusted and doesnt think his mum is doing wrong. Who are we to judge? She is making an honest living.
tator_tot2010 Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 I like her. I don't care if people wanna judge her. She's not doing anything wrong and no one is being harmed. Some people just need to get over it.
thephoenix Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 From what I can tell, she is genuinely trying to raise her son well, and if she has to do porn to get enough money for that, so be it. I think it's safe to say it wasn't her top career choice, but she is paying taxes, isn't on welfare, and hasn't been arrested for anything. Even though there is a big stigma associated with the adult industry, nobody is hurt in the process.
Ashi Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Actually I watched a documentary called "Everything You Wanted to Know about Gay Porn Stars" and found some of these people's lives are fascinating. Some may just be trying to get attention, and a couple of them I think they're just jerks, but some of them really have very depressing lives. Some got duped into the business (one lost his virginity through gay porn, that stinks), some just had to make a living. One guy I remember vividly was a guy who was an English major, and couldn't make his way as a writer. Amidst of his slum of his life, he sort of just didn't care it all, so he became a porn star, I guess sort of self-punishment or something. But I got the impression he felt his life was even worse after he took the wrong turn. One guy was also going through such traumatizing experience, but he always pretended he was happy throughout the interview, but this guy was just really depressed and depressing whenever he was on screen. I almost felt I wanted to take him home and take good care of him..., except I couldn't take good care of myself either..., and I have my own share of problems.... But I think he really really need some love, except he only had sex.... Anyways, the point I brought this up is because some of the porn stars seem to be good, normal people, but just having some bad stroke of luck. It's admirable some of them, even despite of their unfortunate existence, they still found some way to bring positivity to people they care.... I've lived on this world long enough to see some of the stuff happening in this world is kind of sad and sometimes sick.... How could you judge someone based on their career, which may not even be something they choose to do?
hh5 Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 some treat porn as another job ... its entertainment ... sex sells ... money comes in ... no one cares about dangers or repercussions its really against the norm of society ... but it follows economic supply n demand so sick is a commodity on the free market
