Dallas-Forth Worth Area in the late 70s

I need help with a couple of details on the DFW area during the late seventies. The area has grown and law change over the years. The accuracy of these details are important for a story that I'm working on.

 

1. At what age can you get your Texas drivers license in 1978?

 

2. What is the main road from Dallas to Denton at this time?

yes, but what I've found is that I35E was under construction in 79, so I assume not complete in 78.

Still need to know how old you had to be to get your license back then. Wasn't it 16?
