the original The Avengers star, Patrick Macnee, is no more :(

He's best known for playing the archetypal Englishman John Steed in the British TV "spy-fi" show that ran from 1961. I love old 60s TV shows and this is one of my faves :)

RIP Patrick Macnee.

I remember watching the show when it was first shown in the US.

Patrick Macnee always imbued the characters he portrayed with a certain elegance and grace. I loved The Avengers. It often had some of the most clever lines and inside jokes. When co-star Honor Blackman left the show to portray Pussy Galore in Goldfinger, they had this line in an episode, "Mrs. Gale is in Kentucky. I wonder what she's doing there."   LOL

He owned 25% rights to The Avengers, which meant, unfortunately for us, that he seldom had to work. I'll really miss him.  RIP
