JSmith Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 Muahaha the soda's are winning! For so many people saying pop in the chatroom I'm surprised only one has voted that way...
rekop1 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I call it both, when I lived in Arizona everyone called it pop over there. When I move back to California after College I started calling it soda again, but every once in a while I call it pop or it slips out that way.
Luc Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 It's soda. Definitely. If you look on a can of soda it will say "Diet Soda" (am looking at a can of Slice One, a Pepsi product) or, in the case of Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper, it will say "artificially and naturally flavored cherry vanilla soda." Can't argue with the can.
Camy Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Soft Drink, or by brand name. I prefer Pepsi to Coke anyway.
icedfire Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 It is, always has been, and always will be soda. Gotten into so many arguments with these crazy midwesterners and their "pop" obsession...pop only refers to really bad music. Rob
NickolasJames8 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Sometimes I hear people around here call it belly wash
Jingjok Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I'd have voted for soft drink. If these came from the chat room, how cum I'm the only vote for "soda pop"? Jingjok 1
Drewbie Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Soda all the way. But I usally tell I want a Coke, I use to think I had Cherry Coke running thru my vains What's your favorite Soda?
Masked Monkey Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 hahaha Cherry Coke all the way. Used to drink one first thing in the morning before I started with coffee, and right before brushing my teeth. Probably went through a 6-pack a day. :king: Snow Dog
BoyNeedsTherapy Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Yup, I was the fizzy drinker, but I don't really call it that, I normally just go by brand name.
Mark_l Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 i'm the other one that says fizzy drink or rather i used to when younger now i tend to call it by its brand too me and Ben are the strange ones
NickolasJames8 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 What's your favorite Soda? A&W and Sprite are in a tie for first place with me After that, I like Sun Drop, Fresca and Coke Oh, and ANY kind of orange soda I also think from now on I'm gonna start calling it belly wash just to see how my friends react
Rigel Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Growing up in Connecticut, I learned to call it "soda". I got used to my Midwestern friends and roommates asking for "pop." When I lived in the Boston, Mass. area, I got used to looking for the aisle with "tonic" (now there's a REAL regionalism for you!) Depends where you're from, and whatever other family and ethnic influences you grew up with. My Mother was from New York, so I had even more New York-isms in my speech than others in my native area. (Actually, there is no equivalent term for an "egg-cream" outside of New York.) Not to mention Yiddishisms, which still pepper my language, becuase "munchies" doesn't graph onto reality quite the same way as "nosherai." --Rigel
Mark_l Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 No mark, we're the right ones ok we are the right ones pffft soda is such a stupid word *hides behind Ben from the scary Americans*
Drewbie Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Yes I like Fresca too, and Orange is good. I like my Dr Pepper too, Teacher says Mr pip it's like pain medication
AFriendlyFace Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 (edited) Soft Drink, or by brand name. I'd have voted for soft drink. Back in New Orleans, we'd call it a "cold drink" or a "soft drink", or a Coke (no matter what actual drink it was). Here in Portland, I'm not sure what they call it. Guess I'll have to ask around. Like these fine people I refer to it as a "soft drink". Like Kitty (I wasn't that far from N.O.) it was not uncommon to hear it referred to as a "cold drink" or just a "Coke", though personally I don't think I ever called it anything but a "soft drink". I wouldn't like burst out laughing or anything if someone called it a, "soda", "pop", "soda pop", "cold drink", or "Coke", but I probably wouldn't naturally describe it that way myself. I might use one of the other terms to be silly, but never just naturally in conversation Of course it's mostly irrelevant for me anyway, regardless of what you call them I don't drink them Take care and have a refreshing day everyone Kevin Edited April 23, 2006 by AFriendlyFace
Tim the Traveller Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 I call it coke, no matte what it is. If it is in a can or bottle and "pops" when you open it, it is a coke. My favorite coke is pepsi, cherry coke, and cherry pepsi in that order. then comes 7-up or bubble up, not sierra mist or sprite. what the hell is limon flavoring anyway? Sadly, I used to filter upwards of 24 cans of coke a day through my body. It is not healthy, and a hard habit to break. Now i limit coke intake to 2 cans a day(after quitting cold turkey and not having any for about 3 years) and other than that I drink mass quantitites of lemonade now. Pink lemonade, raspberry lemonade, cherry lemonade, and just plain lemonade. minute maid, old orchard, welch's, generic--just as long as it's frozen--the powdered does not work for me.
