Timothy M. Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 I was trying to use the search function in the Writing Prompts forum. I needed to find topic #597 to mention my new chapter. However, searching didn't work, whether I used 597, #597 or Prompt #579. It didn't matter whether I searched the prompt forum or everywhere. Is this a bug, or am I using the search function wrong? It would be really nice to be able to find the topic I need without having to scroll through several pages.
Site Moderator TalonRider Posted March 17, 2019 Site Moderator Posted March 17, 2019 I see you must have found what you were looking for. I went to try looking and found the topic at the top of the list with a reply from you.

I would like to avoid doing that for my next chapters. Spoiler i.e. prompt 611, 593, 619 and 712. Edited March 17, 2019 by Timothy M.
Site Administrator Myr Posted March 17, 2019 Site Administrator Posted March 17, 2019 I typed prompt 597 in the search box on the red menu. It found your topic asking where it was and the topic you were looking for? I also think age of a topic has an effect on search. This isn't Google where there is infinite resources devoted to finding everything, everywhere. 1
Timothy M. Posted March 17, 2019 Author Posted March 17, 2019 (edited) Yes, and the same happens when you search for prompt 593 or prompt 611 (the next topics I need). If I use 611 and only search the Writing Prompt Forum all I get is: There were no results for your search. Try broadening your criteria or choosing a different content area. This shows that it's the word prompt combined with the topics with most recent posts which define the search result. The number of the prompt doesn't feature in the search routine at all. If that's the way it is, I can live with it, but it sure is a sucky search function. However, the story search works really well, and that's more important. Thanks for looking into it, and I'm glad it wasn't me doing the search all wrong. Edited March 17, 2019 by Timothy M.
Site Administrator Solution Myr Posted March 17, 2019 Site Administrator Solution Posted March 17, 2019 The search is built in and there's really not much we can do about it. The Story Search works as well as it does because it is search titles only. @Timothy M. One option for the Writing prompts is to change the sort function to "Title" It should let you find the prompts faster. 1
