Zombie Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 (edited) I’ve been getting this problem recently - embedded YTs won’t play when you “click” them and simply display “Sign in to confirm that you’re not a bot” Didn’t used to happen - is it just me with my iPad 6 iOS 16.6 or is it because of the recent platform upgrade? Link to this post and YouTubes that won’t open Edited February 19, 2025 by Zombie

Zombie Posted February 20, 2025 Author Posted February 20, 2025 ah, so I’m guessing they play just fine for YT’s ‘home’ market in the US? and (curious business model) YT just want to annoy ‘foreign’ users https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/298744625/allow-guests-to-watch-embedded-youtube-videos-when-they-re-asked-to-sign-in-to-prove-not-bot?hl=en-GB

Compliance with EU nonsense is why we have that annoying cookies banner that we have to pay money or in order to try to stay in compliance. Some US states are starting the nonsense too. Compliance cost will eventually exceed revenue and then that'll be it. This little annoying thing is only the tip of the iceberg of stupid. 1 3

Acknowledging the problem is the first step towards fixing it. Staying in compliance with the cookie law, account deletion, and everything else costs us about 25% of our yearly revenue. Income from same area is less than half that. So if I want to bitch about a bunch of European bureaucrats thousands of miles away taxing my ass, that is my American right. That taxation without representation thing is why there is United States of America to begin with. 2 2
